The PVG-42 RECOILLESS ANTI-TANK RIFLE looks like it would be fun to shoot.

Just staggering. I'm going out and buying a lottery ticket right now, since there is no other way I'll ever own a collection like this one.

I guess I'm dating myself but I remember when PIATs were for sale along with WW2 2.36" RLs at army surplus stores. I was warned by one proprietor not to try and cock the PIAT because "I would rupture myself".

Here's a quote from gunboards.com
"Please keep in mind that the 360 or so pieces in the Julia auction represent only a small part (albeit the best of the best) of the Stern collection. Bruce probably had in the neighborhood of 5000+ firearms. Plus TONS of accessories of every kind for just about anything he owned. A smaller auction house in Maine, without the Julia marque value, is handling thousands of "lesser" pieces." There is an article about the collection in the Feb issue of 1st Freedom, an NRA magazine. Saving The Past, Protecting The Future: The Bruce E. Stern Collection – By Doug Wicklund, Senior Curator, National Firearms Museum Some of NRA director Bruce Stern’s world-class gun collection will be on display at the National Firearms Museum, but most will be auctioned March 8-11 to benefit Stern’s endowment for The NRA Foundation.

OMG, they have both a lahti and the holy grail of 20mm antitank rifles in my opinion, the star of Unintended Consquences.
SOLOTHURN A.G. S18-1000 DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE. SN 1301. Cal. 20mm. Swedish model S18-1000 semi auto anti tank gun manufactured in 1940. Gun is all a purple hued bluing with a black rubber butt plate. Cocking/crank handle on right side receiver. The magazine-well with a spring loaded dust cover is on left side of receiver. Utilizes heavy bipod on front (adjustable for elevation.) Telescopic sight on left side of receiver. On top of scope is a tangent rear sight (graduated 200-1500 meters.) Gun has removable bbl. Gun includes muzzle and thread protector. Small muzzle break (4 holes in each side.) Large muzzle break (5 holes in each side.) Comes with 9 magazines, 1 single mag-pouch, and 1 double mag pouch. Complete cleaning, maintenance, and armorer kit in canvas pouch with fitted compartments. All comes in fitted wooden crate. PROVENANCE: Stern Collection. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Original finish is very fine plus, and has probably remained in this condition due to the care of packaging and storage. This is not a simple Solothurn, it is a complete Solothurn system with firearm, optics, multiple magazines, tools, and storage chest. It doesn't get any nicer or any more complete than this. 4-34672 JZ67 (27,000-37,000) Jer |

Well I can't afford anything at the Julia auction, but would love to know what auction house is hsndling the "lesser" pieces.
