Sorry. This will be my first magnified optic where that would have even been a possibility, so I had no idea. I just expected 1x to be unmagnified. No matter though. I still intend to go with this setup due to the fact that the scope actually seems to sit low enough on the AK to be comfortable.

Haven't seen this one here before.

Just got a couple yesterday, with fresh tritium.
Supposedly first collimator issued to SF in 1995 Chechen campaign.
Predecessor to Obzor.

Very cool, for sale or personal use?
There is also a battery powered version of it.

For sale.
Got two, one spoken for. Interesting feature - the switch that acts like a filter on Obzor acts differently on NIT. It seems to turn off regular day-time reticle and activates tritium illumination.

Thank you brother for a great deal.
Very interesting optic for sure. Was able to take a few pic of it today.
Sight has an eye cup but it does not require eye relief, so I think it'll be fine with eye cup removed, should speed up target acquisition as well. Although this is more of a precision sight vs reflex/red dot. There was an article published in Russian of this sight beating nearly all others including Kobra in fast follow up shot and accuracy. Like most of the newer Russian sights, it was designed for precision one shot kill at 400 meters.
This sight has both Solar & Tritium illumination and two levers, the one of the left side blocks solar cell-window and uses mirror (in the up & down position) to project tritium light on to reticle and the lever on the right side flips contrast filter up or down. Unlike Obzor that has contrast filter sealed inside housing, Nit-A has filter on the outside (in front of front objective. Both levers have a solid and nice positive clicks when operating.
The height (chin weld) can be bothersome for someone who's not used to it but with practice it's not that bad. Those who used in competition found it fast enough to beat many other sights.
Being developed in early 90's they were definitely ahead of combat optic R&D IMO.
What I find interesting or even unusual by our standards is that when a company introduces a new product or newer generation one, it phases out production of the older model. Not quite the case in Russia, this optic was first came on scene in 1994 and 20 years later it's still being manufactured even though there are newer successors to it.

All in all, I like it. It's definitely a unique optic among my AK glass collection.

Contrast filter up.

Filter down (off).

Reticle at close range, don't pay to much attention to target. Trying to capture reticle pic.
Solar illuminated (yellow).

Tritium.

So I've got a PA 1-6x scope that I'm planning on mounting on my Saiga. Are there any side rail mounts similar to the Midwest industries scope mount, but less ugly and can provide more eye relief?

I got my Christmas present (paid present ) from our valued member Spb_La.

It's a PO3.5x21P, I'm very impressed with this optic. It has a very wide field of view and some of the clearest glass I've seen. Better than our issued ACOGS and better than my Rakurs-A. The reticle picture is blurry because its aimed at my wall 5 feet away, so don't use that as a measure of clarity. It's battery illuminated red with a CR132 battery, no oddball battery. The range finder on the left is for prone targets, the one on the right standing targets. I will say it's a big bastage though!

Have a few of them, excellent all around optic... Being so big does not even bother me for being what it is.

Waited for this optic for a while, received it recently and it was definitely worth the wait. Top of the line optic, I'll even take this over similar Trijicon.
Crystal clear glass, very compact, excellent build quality, battery illuminated and light sensor just makes it so much better.
There have been numerous reviews written on it and one issue that had me concern a bit was very short eye relief. Well, after trying it out (mounted) it's not even a issue, very comfortable and eye relief does not feel any shorter or any worse than Trijicon or most other similar optic. It's more than acceptable.
For such a small or compact optic it does have some heft to it, nothing major or anything just feels really dense. I guess it's better than being too light. If anything I'd contribute it to high quality build.
Light sensor works like it was design to, not that I'd take this to combat but I can see major advantage for such a feature, if speed/time is crucial. It's also better than covering up fiber optic with tape on a sunny day.
One thing that I'm not to impressed about, its proprietary AD mount. Would prefer more modular base as in the Combat version.
Overall, it's one amazing scope and being for what it is, I'd say it's worth it's price tag and then some.

Looks like you got your wish and Browe is now making a BTO-RS that sits much lower over the AK!

Yes, BROWE (owner) showed me a prototype of RS mount version after I posted my post here. He used some of the pics from here on his FB page when he was working with RS.
Really cool guy and awesome product for sure, would definitely buy this version if I didn't already own my current one.

Couple more new items from "the old country".

First one is kinda like NPZ's answer to Trijicon.

Just released PKU-2 3MOA red dot. I am not aware of any other unit in the US at this time. Mine is a demo (SN 0018 ), haven't really tested it beyond turning it on and changing brightness settings. Being an NPZ product - should be a very solid unit when it hits the stores. Online reviews are very favorable, stays on tight and holds good zero even for 7.62x54R.

New version of Kashtan, goes under PO2.8x18P2. Unfortunately, with obnoxious WPA logo, as they are now partnered with NPZ on some new items.

Looks very nice, but i kinda liked the rubber eyepiece of the classic version. A bit different reticle too - I guess not everyone liked the fact they switched from the mil three-chevron reticle to german post. New one has decidedly different look. Looks sharper in real life than in the booklet picture below, but I don't have Five-Seven's photo skills to show it.

That's pretty cool, looks like Aimpoint T1 copy. They claim it can withstand 5,000 G's
Do you know what's expected battery life on it?

Couldn't find data on battery life. The one I have is a very first run - I am waiting to see when I can get regular production units.

I am liking the Kashtan version though - very clear glass, good FOV.

Some more of the new Kashtan.

Reticle looks sharper in real life - sorry, my photo skills are far from FiveSeven's

Mounted on NPZ rail:

Photos are good, very good for showing reticle.

It's almost seem a little bigger than the older version.
This would make great optic for TWS or Zeniotco dustcover rail. Very well made scope anyway you look at it.
Now, if they made one that works on AA or CR123 it'll be simply the best rifle scope money could buy.

OK, question for the experts.
What does this PO3.5x21P mount on???

It has AK74-marked reticle, but the mount is odd. It sits so low - it does not fit on my AK side rail.

Don't own a PKM (I wish), but judging by pics, it would be too low, and the front of the optic would be hitting back of the receiver.
Odd duck. Came from Belarus this way.

Looking at the mount, it'll fit PKM mount very tight, almost touching the receiver but I don't think it will as the PKM rail is all the way back. Look at the center cam and grove for it on PKM rail (middle).
You definitely wont be able to field strip it.

I also think that Kashtan with a long weird mount was also made for PKM not for AK-74 and accommodation for a folding stock etc.
I could be wrong (most likely am), It's also possible it's made for some hunting rifle or SKS mount as it requires very low mount that will never work on AK.
It might work (more likely not) on PSL or SVD as their mount sit higher then AK and that mount is universal.
This mount for example is VERY low on PSL, it'll won't work on AK.

OKP-7
Has been brought up in this thread before.
Very cool sight, lightweight and very low profile, protective shield nearly touches dust cover (I guess it can be bend a bit but I see no reason to).
It does cowiness with irons but unlike red dot, it's not the same, as your eye picks up one or the other with this type of reticle. On typical red dots when lowering brightness you can use front post and red dot as one.

Sight has auto brightness sensor and it adjusts itself very fast.
The only negative about it is the Allen wrench key lock, QD would have been better but it's not a huge deal. Well worth it's price.

See ALL open sight.

Have not take it out shooting yet but so far I like it.
If it works like I think it should, it could easily replace iron sights, maybe even a red dot.
I might try out tritium model as I think it sits slightly lower. With this model you need a cheek rest or adapter that sits slightly higher, like RD one.
With VLTOR adapter/tube, Magpul CTR stock and .50 cheek riser it's perfect.

Very unique/cool sight. So far I'm impressed with it. If this works out I'll get a few more for various other application (including shotgun).

Slightly edited photo of the reticle, to lazy to spend more time taking a proper photo. But in real life it looks as it does here.

^^^ very interesting. did you try mounting in on a side mount? or does it feel awkward when it is too close to the eye?

Where did you get that sight and how much was it. I like the look. But can't seem to find it on the web.

Wish i kept one for myself instead of selling. Now with NPZ raising prices, they will be close to $700. Too much, although it is a great sight.

No but the reticle will be much smaller. Being more forward enlarges chevron and makes it quicker to pick up a target.

They know it's a quality optic and believe there's room for price increase. Although some would speculate that Russian economy is suffering and if that's the case, they would make more of them for less.....but it seems to be not the case, the opposite actually.
If you look at similar optics from Leupold, Trijicon etc it's actually much more affordable even at $700 and I'm sure you could get it cheaper then MSRP.
Quality glass cost money.

^^^ you are correct, sir!

BTW - another interesting example came to me recently.
It is a POSP 8x42WD 2000.
Weaver mounted scope with diopter adjustment. Allegedly made for Azerbaijan army, and not encountered in the wild.
Not sure how true that is, but I could not find any commercial reference for it, and it sports a 1.7m reticle. Has Pro turrets, too!

Very interesting turrets. Seems they made the body a bit more compact as well.

Trijicon 3x24
Red cross-hair .223 reticle and I'm sure it can be used for 5.45x39 as both have very similar ballistics. Much better eye relief then 4x ACOG's.
Very good glass and extremely lightweight, I really like the scope but it's up for sale as I plan to get identical replacement in 7.62x39 BDC.

Pride Fowler 1.25-4x24 (.300/7.62x39mm BDC)
No filed test but as far I can tell it's a very good scope with good glass. There's a few negative reviews out there, I don't see any of the problems they stating. Clear glass and illumination works properly (does not wash out reticle at all).
This is FFP reticle and it's easy to see BDC at 4x.
With Magpul cheek riser and low MI mount it has perfect cheek weld.

Very cool photo...Good set up as well.

Primary Arms 5x ACSS
v

Torrey Pines Logic T12-W Thermal Imaging Sight.
Had this for about 3-4 mounts, a thermal sight the size of a red dot (very lightweight).
Picks up animals/people at 100yd+.
I'll try to sight in on one of my AK's but I think ideally this will work the best under 100yd and especially indoor. There's wide angle model but I believe this one is better, even at closer range.
Exceptionally good on battery life for such device (but it does have a small screen).
If you have enough room the the rail (top of the rifle), you can mount 3x magnifier backwards at a specific distance and it will magnify the screen quite a bit.
All in all even for the price I think it's a very useful and just plain cool sight.
