Thumbs down San Diego City Council committee approves new gun storage rules

Here we go again....

Quote:
SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego City Council's Public Safety and Livable Neighborhoods Committee voted 2-1 Wednesday to send a proposed ordinance, which would require gun owners to store guns in a locked container or disable them with a trigger lock when not in use, to the full council without a recommendation.
Quote:
Wendy Wheatcroft, the founder of San Diegans for Gun Violence, framed the proposal as one way to reduce suicide among military veterans.
How?

Thought it was for the ‘kids’? Didn’t CA legislature propose something similar this year?

This only applies to Hepatitusville. Outside the city limits we are safe, for now.

I feel safer already, and less suicidal. Don't y'all?

Unfortunately San Diego city is being Californicated like the rest of the urban landscape here. Most of the political leadership is now socialist/democrat.

It's sort of like trying to push back the ocean with a broom.

I'm a firm believer in gun safes. Not to prevent suicide but to prevent or help prevent them from being stolen and possibly used in a crime. That would be my worst nightmare. Believing in gun safes doesn't mean I'd make it a law though. This will be one of those laws that's pretty much unenforceable. Recently we got a company bonus and I talked a coworker into buying a safe from Costco. He has minor children in the home too. I bought my safe in 1994, a Liberty Lincoln 25. Best $900 I ever spent.

I remember back in the mid 1990's talking to another coworker who was proudly telling me about his recent purchase of a custom pistol for $1200 to add to his collection. I asked if he had them stored in a gun safe and his comment was no, he couldn't afford one.

.

This is so true.
Also, I was in real estate seminar a week ago, one of the brokers mentioned that liberal companies such as Google, Apple are establishing their offices and sending their people down to San Diego. They are moving in, pretty soon this town will likely be similar to LA or SF.

This is more redundant legislation. A waist of everyoneís time and money. Itís already state law. My firearm is secured in a bedside rapid access safe or even better I have one in my pocket it is secure and in use.

Wendy Wheatcroft said she had meetings with Nathan Fletcher on the SD Board of Supervisors to pass a similar law for the county the day of the committee meeting. So if people don't show up to fight it in the city, it will immediately spread to the county. Maybe start proactively calling the board of supervisors after you make calls to the city council.

Want to prevent veteran suicide? Get rid of the VA. Simple as that. Let guys and gals get help from wherever they want with out having to go through the bureaucratic nightmare that is government healthcare.

Guys...Just as a reminder, note that this law went into effect this Thursday, Sep 12, 2019.

Do be careful if you have the police out to your house for any reason.

I didn't think this law was too absurd. It kinda made me realize that my gun storage practices were crude at best, and now with a new niece, insufficient at best.
I bought a Stack-On gun cabinet at Dicks Sporting goods and feel a little bit better that my guns are at least more difficult to access, and I am now compliant with the law.
