Not to hijack the thread, but Trapper is that a Dobie in your pic? I have one also, but he has floppy ears. Great dogs.
Yes indeed. He's my second doberman and can't/won't own another breed. They are too perfect! I've heard vets in ca won't crop ears anymore.. I was lucky the breeder is out of state and had their vet do it for me.

Same here, won't own another breed. Weird, didn't know that about the CA vets, but doesn't surprise me. Funny, mine crosses his front legs just like that when laying down.

Don't hold me to that. That's just what I've heard. I've also called local vets and they've all said they wouldn't do it..

I think it's a dobe thing. Haha

Trapper, I was there on the 15th as well, I heard that the officer was off last week and we had a pretty large class. I would expect we would hear something next week hopefully.

Wow!! They are making calls on Saturday now?

Sheriff McMahon really wants to eliminate the backlog.

This is great news!!!

Carry always and be safe. To never know when you'll need it. Trust me on this.

It's been a few years, but my first time was weird. Worried everyone was watching me, which of course they weren't.

Wife just got hers a few months ago. She's only carried once but approached me thenother day about getting a "carry purse".

Big step for her and I'm quiite proud.

Picked up my permit yesterday carrying for the first time right now. Its nice to have the process behind me. We are fortunate to live in a very friendly CCW county as far as California goes.

when you pick it up do you have to do anything else, or just grab it and run?

Just go in, turn left to HR, they'll buzz you in. Ask for packet, show ID and be on your way.

(BTW, I'm walking distance to the Thoroughbred Christmas lights)

I meant when you go in to finally pick up your permit, do you have to do anything else, or do you just show ID and grab it? My range date is next saturday so I expect I'll be picking mine up in about a month..

After the range class it's just wait for the call to pick up license. Then bring a money order for $116.80 (from memory, don't trust that that is the correct amount!)
I would guess I spent less than 3 minutes in the sheriffs office to pick mine up.

Rand, Rancho magnum is just a few miles down the hill... http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=793205

Seems like most wait about 3 months but I've heard some are out beyond a year. I think it depends on a number of circumstances.

you're supposed to get a call after about 90 days.. after waiting 120 days and still not hearing anything I called and found out there was an issue with my employment verification that I had to get worked out with my HR drones.

Is the 1 year residency still a "requirement" in San Berdo?

What types of handguns do they recommend for SB county CCW?

I've got:
Ruger LCR .38 Special +P
1911 .45 ACP (Full size)
CZ-97B .45 ACP
Desert Eagle .44 Magnum
Desert Eagle .50AE

Do they want us to have concealable i.e. the LCR or do they want stopping power i.e. .45 ACP or bigger? Or do they even care / doesn't matter?

I AM RUNNING FOR SHERIFF IN SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, What will I do with the CCW process?

I would stream line the CCW process by doing the following:

When you first get to the CCW office with your filled out application in hand, an initial criminal check should be done through NCIC while you are there. Questions regarding any red flags in that background should be questioned there. Interviews should be done at that time too. I would encourage people to go to a CCW/Qualification class prior to the process to help expedite.
I would hope to staff the office with civilian investigators or private investigators to lower cost. I would increase the staff to help expedite the process. I would have staff in a CCW High Desert Office too.
Unless there was something that brought questions up about the persons back ground they should get their CCW in less than a month.
I do have some naysayers that think it can’t be done. Well I will give it my best. Semper Fi! www.sheriffpaul2014.com

As far as I know, they are still running those classes at Glen Helen, but with the amount of deputies and outside agencies rotating through those facilities, it gets tight on time to get the civilian CCW classes squeezed in.

BTW, yeah, it's cool to be able to do that in CA, but after some time, the novelty wears off and you get tired of having to dress around the gun and limiting your activities while carrying. Not that I would give it up anytime soon, but still, you start migrating to the smaller and more comfortable guns as you move on in years. In my youth, I CCW'ed a G21, and then quickly went down in size from there. If you aren't comfortable, you won't carry it.

They said choose a firearm that is suitable for your build.
Caliber doesn't really matter as long as it's in the .38-.45 range hinting that 9mm should be the smallest though.

I'd recommend an AR pistol for your CCW.

Novelty wore off before I even got the permit haha! I refused to dress around the weapon. My g19 is the biggest I'd conceal, looking for a shield as an alternative for those long hours in the car.

For those of you that did the range day in San Berdoo... Did you bring your holsters? The range day flyer says to bring a holster for each gun but as of now, i've only invested in one IWB holster for my Sig (my intended EDC). Do I need to hurry up and order 2 more holsters!?

We were instructed to place our guns in front of us on our range bags when we lined up at 5 yards. There wasn't a time when a holster would have been used.
