What is that little piece called on the bottom rail of the first rifle before the rail cover (looks like it helps with better grip) and who makes it? Thanks in advance!

I run the KAC rail myself on one of my two AR15s, the one I use for CQB training courses. It is a nice drop-in rail. Not too heavy. It has been good to me. I saved the free floating 12" rail for my range whore. The longer rails weigh too much. By hour 5 of running and gunning your arms get way too tired with the longer rails. In any case, I absolutely love my M4. More so than my Recon rifle. Last edited by tacticalcity; 10-20-2010 at 1:53 PM.. |

After trying the grip all the way out there, I found it works great for a short period of time, however it drastically increases the fatigue factor the longer you do it.
So while it works great in competition, it is not very realistic for real life such as combat operations or SWAT use. Sit outside a hostage standoff situation for hours on end and you WILL end up moving your hand further back. Train for four days straight eight hours a day and you WILL end up moving your hand further back. The issue is that your skeletal structure is much stronger than your musculature structure. You're trying to put all the weight of your rifle on your muscles, where as if you moved your hand further back then you could put most of it on your bones...in which case you would tire out a lot slower. I still use the thumb over bore, and I still only use the vertical grip index point, I just do it further back on the rifle so my skeletal structure is bearing the brunt of the weight. It is a compromise between what controls recoil the best and between what is practical for hours upon hours of running and gunning fatigue wise. It's what I was trained to do, and what works best for me after having put several techniques to the test. |

I moved my forward grip closer and it seems to work better.

I wish I had the tools, skillset and patience to be able to turn a chunk of metal into a functioning lower. I have not touched an actual drill press since metal shop in junior high school. I just don't have access to the equipment. And forget about me trying to airbrush or spray paint the lower. I have zero patience for stuff like that. I always want to rush the process, which messes it up.
Very nice job! I am impressed with how nice it turned out. |

Look underneath the banner ads at the very top of the page. See the drop down menu that reads AW & OLL GUIDES? Click on that drop down menu and read each one of those guides one-by-one. People here are going to flame you (bash you) pretty badly for a post like the one you just made. It shows a complete lack of understanding of the law. Something people here take offense at, because they have been working so hard to educate the public, and yet so many people are completely uninformed. People who are gun owners and should know better still think these rifles are illegal, and are extremely stubborn and insistant when you try and educate them as to the truth. Don't be one of the those people. Learn the law...it will help you get a lot more fun rifles in your collection. Last edited by tacticalcity; 10-27-2010 at 12:16 PM.. |
