Default KISS AR15: cheapest AR I've ever built!

The upper is a 16" "Freedom" upper with a nitride barrel from Palmetto State Armory (I love their stuff); Magpul flip up rear sight; and a New Frontier Armory complete lower.

I apologize for the quality of the picture. I'll try to get a better one in the daylight tomorrow.

The only two things I upgraded on it was the nickel boron PSA BCG (I like the look of it) and a BCM gunfighter charging handle. My nib bcg cost $119, but like I said, it was from a previous project that never got completed. Had I needed to buy a new one for this build, I would have gone with a $60-80 bolt to keep costs down.

Considering I already had the BCG/CH from a previous build I never completed, this was literally the cheapest rifle I've ever built at $298 (plus fees and shipping, of course). It would be closer to the high $380s-390s if I bought a bolt specifically for this build. Still the most inexpensive I've owned so far.

I bought the Palmetto State Armory upper for $189. I should have waited a few more days for free shipping, but its always a cat and mouse game with their availability. The complete New Frontier Armory lower was $109. I didn't buy it directly from their website, I got it from a different dealer who charged $20 less than what NF was asking.

I got the magpul buis for about $9, used.

This is probably the cheapest AR type rifles will ever be in history. Before the glut of parts from the last political scare, an AR was always close to a grand in my mind. It truly is the time to buy AR rifles. Or at least a few uppers. I got a chrome lined bushmaster, 16'', with removable carry handle, for 400 last month. That is cheap cheap cheap.

Kinda misleading when you don't include the price of the bcg even though you had it already. And did you get the buffer assembly and stock free? Lpk?

I don't remember exactly how much the BCG was when I got it, but now it is $119 from PSA. But even if I bought one specifically for this M4gery, it still would be the cheapest AR I've ever owned thanks in large part to the lower.

http://palmettostatearmory.com/palme...with-logo.html

To answer the second half of your question: the buffer/stock assembly and LPK comes already included and installed on the lower.

Nice, did you get it during one of their sales? Which upper was it if you don't mine me asking?

I thought I got the cheapest upper they had available, but no bolt/CH is included.

That's a good deal, Devon. Probably about how much mine would have cost had I needed to buy a new BCG. I've been on the forums long enough to know what that's like. The first scare (for me) was in 08 -- you couldn't find reloading supplies ANYWHERE for over a year I wanna say. And again in 2012, you could hardly find AR15 rifles or uppers or lowers.

I think this year, I'll buy myself a few more of those nf lowers.

I wish I knew of a place nearby that sold complete lowers, I would buy a couple more. I recently purchased a psa complete lower with magpul sl buttstock, magpul trigger gaurd and bullet button for 149 shipped. But with transfer fee ($50) it can add up. Without that transfer fee I would be in for a couple more.

Those psa NiB bcg's were on sale for $89, not sure if they had the logo.

You are correct on the BCG sans logo. I would probably get that next time since the logo is definitely not worth the extra $30. Although I think they are a different brand than the logo'd one. Still not important enough to dissuade me from buying one, though.

The best way to do it is to just save up until you have enough to buy multiple lowers (or complete rifles) and just do it all on one to save on DROS fees. I think I've done that a couple of times in the past and it saved me quite a bit. Next time I have $600 floating around the house, I think I might buy myself 5 more and maybe get a bulk discount.

Transfers at my local FFL is $40, but as you said, it adds up.

The ffl I went to was $50 for the transfer and $25 for dros. I wasn't sure if there were any restrictions on how many could be transfered/drosed in one transaction, legally. It sounds like from what your saying I can get multiple lowers and only be charged for a single dros? And maybe one tranfer fee?

Yes you can buy multiple rifles on one DROS. I forget the limit, maybe someone else can chime in with that information.

I often go through phases where I buy a group of 4-5 rifles and I usually wait until I have the money saved up so I don't have to pay a separate DROS fee for each. But as far as I know, each rifle has its own transfer fee.

very impressive...inexpensive..yet..good quality...for a few dollars more you could add a EXILE MACHINE BACKFIN™ FEATURELESS BACKSTRAP FOR MIAD for 25 dollars www.exilemachine.com, add a magpul miad pistol grip for around 25 bucks..a pin the adjustable buttstock...add a good muzzle break for about 40 bucks...get rid of the bullet button....and have a nice fully functioning rifle for about 100 bucks more...something to consider.

They're cheap to put together now. Anything under 600 is a pretty good proposition. It can be done with good parts. Shop around.
