No thanks, something tells me I'm not going to enjoy "secret fisting" as much as you clearly do.

(Not that there is anything wrong with that.)

On an interesting side note to the whole PM vs. US Dollars thing I happened to be in a room with $40,000,000 in cash earlier this week. $100 bills in bundles, stacked about 5' high.

Many here think it's just worthless paper but I can tell you it's pretty heady stuff when gathered in one place.

And you would have needed a bunch of guys to haul it off...

Five feet high, so just one pallet of money?

The boys in bahrain stack it by sea container.

No, not on a pallet. And also not "prop money"...

Stacked for a pallet I would guess this would have been a little light (like less than half a standard pallet) but it was $100s and actual currency...so it had that going for it.

Premiums for any specific coin will vary from dealer-to-dealer and premiums at any given dealer will vary between the different coins (e.g. silver American Eagle vs. silver Canadian Maple Leaf). For most dealers, premium over "spot price" will also vary over time based both upon demand, changes in spot price, dependent upon their own inventory levels of whatever particular coin you're seeking, and (for some dealers) based upon when they purchased their inventories and how (and if) they're hedged. Also, keep in mind that premiums vary at most dealers based upon the number of coins you're buying and if you're paying sales tax (which is required by California dealers if you're purchasing less than $1,500 at a time) or shipping, those really need to be added back into the premium calculation also.

Here are two websites that may be of some use to you for comparison purposes:
Most dealers' prices are NOT listed on either site, but they should still give you an idea of where "average premiums" lie at any given moment.

That said, a quick check right now of those sites showed online premiums for silver American Eagles to vary between about $2.44/coin to about $3.23/coin. For one troy ounce gold American Eagles the premiums currently vary between about $48/coin to about $64.39/coin. These numbers reflect quantity purchases and do not include taxes or shipping. If you're buying small amounts and paying sales tax or shipping, obviously these premiums will be higher than what I just quickly looked up.

For the most part, current premiums being charged by most dealers are significantly higher than the premiums which the same dealers were charging a year ago, and appear to currently be heading higher (although that can always change on a dime).

You're more than welcome.

$4 over spot for silver eagles is (generally speaking) way high for today's "norms". $50 over spot for 1-toz gold eagles isn't bad. If you're not buying in person, just make sure that they're reputable and trustworthy and not one of the rip-off outfits. Some of the biggest rip-offs have happened in the PM industry because people tend to only look for "lowest price". Caveat emptor.

The short answer is "no". I'll let the other folks here take a crack at giving the long answer - there's a lot that should be mentioned.

Good observation. Although a lot of folks balk at the "high premiums for gold" and so choose to purchase silver, silver premiums are (as a percentage of the overall purchase) generally much HIGHER than gold premiums from any given dealer.

Varies.

Couple dollars for silver.

$20+ for gold.

Always buy on sale because there is always a sale.

I usually go www.jmbullion.com as their prices are rarely beaten and service is great.

I'm seeing 1.00 to 1.69 over spot on generic bullion silver right now. Actually found some that was under spot from a guy that was desperate, so I bought all he had. If you wanna buy silver, now is the time to get in while still relatively cheap.

My LCS charges 1.25 over spot for generic bullion, and 3.25 over spot for eagles.

Here ya go at .79 over spot although I prefer legal tender coins. Eagles, maples, brittanias, etc

Some do, while others will try and get you under spot so they can mark it up over spot and make a larger profit. Rule of thumb, never sell if you are desperate and never settle for anything under spot, as the dealers are surely to mark up some.

For AG, 2 of my local shops will give under spot (generally) under spot for generic, ONE WILL GIVE YOU $1 over spot for Maples, and $2 over spot for Eagles... from what I've seen when other customers come in.

It depends on what exactly you have and to which dealer you sell it. Generally speaking, you can sell coins in BU or better condition for more than spot if you're dealing with a good dealer. I just checked one LCS I'm familiar with and they are currently offering $13.55 over spot for one ounce gold eagles, and $1.25 over spot for silver eagles. The premiums they pay over spot varies from time to time and product to product.

Strong close to the week.

The physical market is driving the boat now and the paper players will be running for the hills for a long time now shoving the price skyward. The short interest is huge and will cover.

Good time ahead for stackers !!

I got tracking today for a roll of Canadian Superman S-Shield 1oz coins @ $20.69/ea. shipping included. Mintage of only 1,000,000. By comparison, that's about two weeks mintage of the Maple Leaf.

If the UK leaves the EU, what to expect in AG price changes?
My lady just texted me about the vote tomorrow is it?

What y'all think?

Long term is always up... it seems. 6-year lows are a good thing for me and like me...

I personally was wondering about the UK/EU complications, and it might be a factor...

That was underwhelming.

I was hoping for a bigger dip in the stock market so I could buy on panic selling.

I didn't get a chance but I wonder did anyone what to see if ebay prices on gold moved as fast as the gold spot prices moved. I would be interesting to see if gold took at fat 5% jump in a short amount of time, and if there was a window in which the price adjustment trailed market value.

Iím pleased to announce the tremendous success of FukyGuru.com and itís $5 subscription rate. Weíve had over 1 million subscribers like yourself who were amazed at the accuracy of the $1,320 with global markets go boom call.

Everyone is waiting with bated breath for the next revelation. Of course all my Calgunners get the Guru calls FREEEEE !

Itís about the page hitsÖ..

I wonít need to wait for the opening to bring insight, Fuky Guru is deep in the rabbit hole of life.

$2,400 Gold as Iíve always said is a fair price for the shinny, $10,000 is achievable and $25,000 solves the world debt crisis medium term.
