Got a question....what is there to win?? Is this just a friendly competition to show each others monthly targets?? If so, I maybe interested in putting up targets. Ive got an anchutz supermatch 1913 that only takes eley black box. Would I get extra points if I use iron sights at 50 yards??

Its just a friendly comp but we're mostly Alpha males so a little competitive. That said if you can see that bull at 50 yards with irons go for it.

As an aside note I tried this weekend to get that perfect score - but I could not catch a break with the wind - 10 - 20 MPH gusts does not for a perfect target make. Hopefulle next weekend will be a little calmer.

Hehe, day after I shot the 100 target I was at another range shooting at 100 and things were going good, both with me my gun and the wind. I shot the below target and then preceded to put 25 holes into a 1" X ring in another. I thought "hey let's put the april target up and get all black dots at 100". LOL, nope wind started to pick up and also change direction. Might have ended up with a 60 score on the target.

Need to get some wind flags to I can see what it's doing.

Damn. Fun target, but five more inches of snow on the shooting range today, and my yet-unfired MkII TR sits here gathering dust.

Maybe if we add another couple days on to April...

Hell, I couldn't even get the Bronco up the hill to the range at this point. Snow's going fast, so April's still a possibility.

Naturally, I expect a perfect score the first time out with the TR. Just to be sure I do, I'm inviting the Easter Bunny along to call the wind.

Well a brief look at the extended forecast covering APTS looks like next Sat morining is my best bet with winds only at 5MPH (whatever happened to those nice still mornings where the wind didn't pick up until around 10:00). I will break a perfect score yet.

Default 115 (close, no cigar)

First trip to the range with the new Savage MkII TR (Millet TRS-1 4x16 scope, SK Standard Plus ammo, bipod and rear sock).

Think the upper left missed (5pts), but the 2nd row, 2nd column just shaved the dot.

I think I'm going to like this gun. Got it sighted in and just went to town on the target. Later, I was shooting some real nice groups at 100 yards.

More next month...

The Savage is a super fun gun and I am so impressed with mine, out of the box accuracy is darn good. Not to mention how many things you can do to improve that accuracy. Have you trimmed the trigger spring yet?

+1 Nice shooting TCWriter!

These TR's are impressive shooters right out of the box. I'm definitely looking forward to trying mine again for next months match.

Thanks guys. Under a magnifying glass, the upper left bullseye really doesn't look like a 10; I scanned the target instead of photographing it, and maybe the target getting pressed flat is affecting things.

In any case, a 115 gives me a reason to shoot it again, though one month, I'd love to see a 100 yard target.

I haven't messed with anything on the TR, which is pure fun on a stick. Our 300 yard range will melt out soon, and then we'll see how it really shoots.

Can't argue with a man's honesty though if you want me to send you my rimfire "cheater" I will LOL. I tried again this weekend and managed to eek out a couple of 110s - dammit - last target was clean until the 11th shot which went cleanly in the 5 ring prompting me to shout obescenities and throw the last shot into the 5 ring as well. One more weekend to clean it - then I need to concentrate on getting everyhting ready for our own 22 match.

Someday I hope to make it down for one of your APTS rimfire matches, (though nine hours is a lot of driving). It's one thing to shoot paper at a time of our own choosing, but creating accuracy on-demand is a lot more fun...

I did a two day rimfire match last year - similar to the large HP tactical matches except without the prize table an will probably do another this year towards late summer or early fall (right before time changes again). That said it would be great to have a bunch of ya from up north come down - can promise some good shootin and good food afterwards.

I'll keep it in mind. Always tough to leave the mountains, but a two day shoot might make the 18 hours of driving and two hotel nights worth it.

The real hassle isn't the trip, it's the very real chance I'd like it enough to want to come back right away...

I see no one has answered your question and I am not an official of the match but Hey, it says "April Rimfire Match" and the .17HMR is certainly a rimfire round so I'd guess its ok. I would think the same goes for a 22WMR or even one of them old 35 cal rimfires. Heck, shoot it and post it, couldn't hurt.

LOL, I think I got a 87-89. I'll post picture. I was using Winchester X HV, some old ammo that stuck every 4-5 rounds. My groups were about 3" at 50 yards...I did manage to get 5-6 10x but the rest lowered my points big time by a total miss! lol, some even got a 9 on another target! Anyways, I'll post pic later. lol.

yes. i think this months was a great size. I'm also open to reaching out further. 100yds maybe even 200yds? Obviously the target would need to be much bigger at 200.

OK took my Savage out for its third round of tryouts
There was no wind when I started shooting but once the sun fully came out the wind did pickup and affected my shots. Unfortunately I cant break the 84 point barrier but next time Im going prone and I tend to shoot better that way
Gun was setup as you see with a front rest and bag

I used Aguila 40gr LRN match ammo. While not the best it is pretty consistant.

early morning zeroing

Mid morning

Late morning

I am now determined to break the 100pt barrier but after I knew I wasnt going to break it today I shot some federal 40gr LRN HV at one of the boar targets at 200m and once I got the right mildot I was dinging it 10 or of 10 times which was pretty sweet considering some guy with a scoped M1A was dancing around the target and not at all too happy with me outshooting his 1000+ dollar rifle with my .22

Good Targets. I like the red bullseye, easier for these old eyes.

PS: My shooting sucked in April so didn't post the targets.

I guess I missed something--is this match supposed to be for sporting/hunting guns or is anything permissible? Where do I send the targets?

Break out your rimfire, load it up and shoot these targets from any position following the outlined criteria. Add it up. Take a pic of your target/s, post it in this thread, and including pertinent info!

Just for fun and bragging rights.

Enjoy!

See April Rimfire Match lower down in this forum for an example.

Default Last minute April post: Z5

Hi, I’m pretty new to Calguns, and since I just got a Zastava Z 5 .22 lr. I thought it would be fun to break it in on this April target challenge. My wife and I put about 75 rounds through it sighting it in and playing around with it. We tried some Fiocchi ammo, which didn’t seem to group very well, then switched to some 30 year-old Remington “Mohawk” .22 lr. (obsolete) which grouped a lot better. We wound up shooting up all the “Mohawk”, so I switched to Winchester 333 bulk can ammo for the April target challenge. The scope is a Simmons .22 Mag 3x9x 32 mm. with adjustable objective. Trigger pull on this gun is gritty and ferocious, so I think some trigger work is in order to get better accuracy, once I finish experimenting with different ammo. Both targets were shot at 50 yards in moderate but variable winds, 58 degrees, between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM under partly cloudy conditions.

The z 5:

The first target had most of the shots to the left of center. I counted a score of only 65, but looking at it now I think I may have cheated myself.

I moved the windage two clicks to the right for the second target. 75, better, but still not very good. I'll try the May targets with some different ammo. This is fun!!

Hmmmm... don't know why the pics came out so small. Next month...

Default can we pick best 10 out of 12? :-)

Entering this on May 1, but I shot it on April 30 just before sunset. How's that for a last minute entry?!
Was doing great until I got to shots # 10 & 11. Interestingly, those two cartridges were from another box, but out of the same brick and with the same lot number on the box flap, so I think it is just pure coincidence.

Only 22lr? No 17HM2 or 17 HMR or 22Mag or 5MM Mag allowed? Just looking for clarification.
