Default Tested the remy 870 tactical express mag fed

The $239.00 shotgun. Mag fed 870.

I hit west end and put 35 rounds through it.

The magazine is very well built. It doesn’t fall free but it’s easy to remove. I have no video but trust me it’s not a nightmare. If u can’t get this out in half a second you gotta be higher that shiI

The action is better than a tube fed. There is zero effort required to cycle a shell into place . There’s no hang up areas. The magazine feed is like a pistol stripping a round. I cant see how this isn’t clearly better than the elevator on a tube fed gun. Simpler too. Inserting the mag is a straight push. Maybe a slight hard push! We are talking 12 gauge here not a 22. Reloads will be very easy. Someone eventually will make a ten round mag for this gun.

The finish on the gun seems durable. I certainly am not going to test it with a salt wash but I’ll put it away dirty and check it out in a couple of weeks.

I think this thing was a steal for $239.00. I really had my doubts but from the little test today I don’t think a whole lot can fail on this simple gun. Of course I said that about my kimber too. And the safety lever failed after 5O rounds!!

Will this replace my vepr 12 as my HD gun? No way amigo. Don’t think the two are even in the same zip code speed wise. The vepr is 6 times faster and has way better sights. This would make an excellent quail gun however!!

Have to use 2 round magazines to legally hunt birds in CA.

Currently, Remington only makes 6 round magazines and there are no aftermarket magazine manufacturers/vendors for it.

Easy enough to epoxy in a permanent block but the regs also say the gun has to be substantially disassembled to install a plug. Whatever that means. It’s a government thing.

I saw that the Rock Island AR-looking shotgun has 2 round magazines available, if you’re so inclined.

Negative, Remington sells magazines which only allow three rounds including one in the chamber.

Good to know they added those.
Thanks for the update.

It’s a moderately heavy gun, not too heavy but solid. Something u could carry all day however. My pattern was 24” at 15 yards. #8 birdshot. Sure packed a wallop on a steel plate too. I wouldn’t have thought there was that much force with birdshot. Much more than 9mm and 45 which swing the plate a few inches.

I ALMOST got one of those, but I want bigger mags and this thing has been out for at least a couple years, and there are no big mags. I decided to hope Mossbergs go on sale at some point.

I'm surprised the aftermarket hasn't introduced a 10+ staggered mag for this 870.

I’m pretty sure magpul or mecgar will make a ten round mag once the market penetration increases - or if it increases. If sales of the gun stay low the aftermarket guys won’t tool up to sell 1000 magazines.

So if you run the magazine dry and don't have another can you load it thru the ejection port?

The more I check them out, the more I want a TAC-14DM AOW.

It’s going to freckle if not super oily. But by all means confirm this.

They're supposed to be a lot easier to control than the pump "firearms".

Are they not allowed in CA as they come out of the box from Remington?

Cured with a coat of Cerakote.

The Remington TAC-14DM is a Title 1 Other, but CA considers it to be a SBS due to it's 14" barrel [PC 17180(a)].

If it was made into a Title 2 AOW, then it would be CA legal. [PC 17710(a)]

A method to legally get it in CA...
1. While out-of-state, TAC-14DM has it's 14" barrel replaced with a 18" barrel.
2. It is then shipped to a CA FFL dealer and transferred (4473 = Title 1 Other / DROS = long gun, shotgun).
3. After it is transferred, submit a Form 1 to make a Title 2 AOW to BATFE.
4. After BATFE approves the Form 1, replace the 18" barrel with the 14" barrel and engrave your info on it.
5. Enjoy CA legal short barrel (14") pump-action "shotgun" that uses detachable magazines.
