w00t!

Congrats, glad it comes with extras too!
I think the price you paid is fair; you got a solid, dependable, effective rifle that you can feed inexpensive non-corrosive ammo (which you should start buying a pile of).

Yeah, I think I've already bought around 300 rounds for it in the last week.

Boom. See how awesome it is to deal with a company that isn't ASC.

Parallax is ridiculously easy to work with. Makes you wonder how American Shooting Center has any business at all with all the other great shops we have in the area.

I think I may have caught SKS fever and my rifle doesn't even ship til tomorrow. I might be picking up a second one in a PPT. I'm supposed to check it out this week, and if the price is right, I'll get that one too. If I can get 2 SKS's and 1000rds of ammo for the price I was going to pay for the levergun, I'll do that deal all day.

Great, now you have me thinking about a Garand too...

*Edit: I just checked gunbot for 30-06 prices. At an average of between $1.50 and $2.00 a round, I'll pass for now.

Yeah, my bad, I'm thinking Mosin's. BTW, OP, a good Mosin is great for a first bolt action if you decide to go that route. Just sayin'.

I haven't priced 30-06 ammo for awhile because I do have a few "green cans" from CMP out in the supply area, started stocking up about 10 years ago, so I'm GTG for the amount of shooting I get to do. The guys say "shoot reloadable brass and reload" for the Garand. I police up all my reloadable brass and give it to people that reload. They in turn will give me back a few rounds as payment for the brass.

Nothing wrong with Chinese SKS, I got one myself. I committed blasphemy and put a russian stock on it cause the original stock was in horrid condition.

No doubt! It shipped today.

I understand that some people just don't want to deal with the headache of CA laws, but it is good to see that there are people out there willing to help out those of us behind enemy lines.

Any ammo to avoid or better yet, to seek out for these rifles?

Surplus still an option?

Being a Russian design, I would suspect it would eat just about anything. I'm going to stay away from the corrosive surplus stuff.

As far as the steel cased stuff, I haven't read anything negative about their use in an SKS. I think I am going to stock up on Golden Tiger FMJBT.

Anybody know anything about the HOT SHOT 7.62x39? Saw some at Big 5 but didn't have time to investigate. Magnetic or not??

You can buy HXP .30-06 from the CMP for .50 a round...
