Default Cajun Gun Works SP-01 "Black Shadow"

Howdy Calgunners, I just wanted to share my newest CGW gun with you all. First of all, this is not an "official" CGW model like the Copperhead but it is a beautiful pistol that Scott built for me and worthy of sharing. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet as I had plans the last couple of weekends but hopefully next Saturday is a range day and I will report back on how she shoots.

I asked Cajun to do the following:
  • Defensive Carry Package with all the Cajun Spice!
  • 7510X Barrel Bushing
  • Single Action Only Conversion with the 6SAO Straight Trigger (FPB Removed)
  • Barrel Crowned and Blued
  • Mill the slide & install the LPA Adjustable Rear Sight aka Shadow Target Sight
  • Fiber Optic Front Sight with the Green Rod
  • Shadow Extended Safety on both sides
  • Extended Magazine Release
  • Stainless Steel Guide Rod
  • "Black Shadow" Engraved in Vladimir Script

The work came out to just a hair over $820 plus the shipping and it was worth every penny! I know the engraving may not be for everyone but that is the beauty of having a gun customized, you can do whatever you want to make it yours. There are thousands of other SP-01s and Shadows, but there's only 1 BLACK SHADOW!

I am a CGW Fan and this is my 3rd Cajunized gun, but it won't be my last! My 97b is next up on deck and it will also be making a trip to get the Cajun Spice! David and Scott are not only excellent gunsmiths, but are great people to deal with. They provided me with good suggestions and feedback on the build as it progressed, I cannot recommend them enough for CZ work. Thanks again to Scott at CGW for the Black Shadow, you da man!

Ok, enough with the talk, now for the pics! I love this shot! Scott sent it to me to show me how it was turning out. I had originally wanted a hard chromed barrel like my Copperhead but I'm glad I took his advice and blued the barrel to match the rest of the blacked out theme.

Before they finished adjusting the trigger. I love the SAO conversion! They will be selling those grips soon but I wasn't able to get them as they aren't for sale yet. I will grab a pair as soon as they start selling them as I think they really finish the gun.

3 Pound trigger with a 1mm reset, couldn't ask for anything more! The trigger has very little take up and is like a glass rod when it breaks. The reset is right there as well, ready for the next shot.

Now its time for a shootout between the Black Shadow and the Copperhead that David built for me! Again, don't hesitate, just send your CZ to Cajun and be amazed when you get it back. Thanks again fellas!

Very Nice! Can't wait to hear your report. I have a similar SP-01 with 10x bushing, SAO with straight trigger, Burris FF3 red dot and other CGW and CZ Custom goodies. This one usually goes with me to the range.

Very nice! Me too waiting for the range report I also have Sp_01 with CGW defensive, straight trigger, FO front, black rear. Im wondering how much difference the x10 bushing makes. Ill probably put one in the future.

Very nice piece you have there! And that copperhead too is bad a$s.

That's exactly what I said when I saw the writing on the gun. But since you literally took the words out of my mouth I'll quote ya.

Great looking gun! Really awesome job by CGW.

Just curious: CGW make some sweet DA/SA triggers. Why convert to SAO?

I was on the fence about the SAO conversion, but I enjoy shooting my SA CZ75 so much and seem to shoot most of my guns that way that I figured I would get it converted, plus I love the look of those straight triggers!

I almost want another SP01 just to have it as a DA/SA....Yes, this is a sickness!

That is true but being able to easily hit your target may be worth it. My nightstand gun is a 75 Compact with the Defensive Carry Package and night sights. I can hit almost anything with that one!

I'd love to get that straight SAO trigger too, but doing so would knock my gun out of production.

you need a gun that's worth a few grand to defend your family?

Some people just don't mind a few grand if it's the result of having saved the family.

This debate comes often. Do you use the cheapest gun for self defense so you don't lose financially in case you have to use it, but at the expense of reliability? Do you use the fanciest gun you have and then kick yourself for losing it? Do you do something in between, e.g., a stock Glock where neither reliability nor the cost are an issue?

There really isn't the right answer. In case of shooting, the rest of the bills will overshadow any gun considerations. Then, the probability of having a fatal shootout are extremely low to begin with.

Cool looking SP-01 although "Shadow" denotes it has a shadow slide that it has no fpb and a fp retaining plate instead of the fp retaining pin. That almost looks like the LPA dovetail with that adjustable rear sight but the LPA sits lower into the rear serrations.

I have said that a few times, but here I am looking for a P-01 and a Tac Sport! As much as I hate the roster, I guess its a good thing that I can't get any of the new Orange guns as my wife would kill me!

The FPB was removed but I don't know about the dovetail, other than it is an LPA rear sight.

Ok I finally had a chance to get to the range. It was really busy so I wasn't able to get a bench with a target stand to put it on paper so I was a bit bummed. I did shoot a ton of steel targets and had a great time with my best friend and his CZ collection. It shot perfectly without any issues. I had a few different types of ammo: Winchester 115 grain "White Box", 124 grain NATO and 124 grain S&B. No problems with any of it. I think it was shooting a bit high but I forgot to bring a flat blade to adjust the rear sight. Oh well, I'll just have to get back out there on a less busy day to put it on paper so I can see if the bushing makes much of a difference. I still had a blast and enjoyed shooting the steel plates. Next range day in 2-3 weeks so I'll have another update.

My CZ Collection: All are fully Cajunized except for the 97b which will be making a trip to Louisiana soon! I'll send the Copperhead slide to get the bushing while I am at it.

My Range: SLOSA on Highway 1 just south of Morro Bay. I love this place! I can easily tag the zombie at 50 yards all day long with any of my guns. I can also get on the 75 yard plates with a few shots out of every 10. 100 yards is definitely tough!

My buddy just got a Cajunized SP-01 as well. It is an incredible gun! DCP, Cobalt frame, HC'd barrel, SAO conversion. It already had work done by CZ Custom, but he liked the CGW trigger work better so he had them redo it. It shoots like a dream and I love the color combo!
