Default MEETING TUESDAY FOR THOSE TAKING A LEADERSHIP ROLE

We will be having a meeting this Tuesday for those who have taken a leadership role in the clean-up. We will be going over any changes which have been made and discussing protocol for the event in each of your capacities. Saturday, for those leaders that can make it... we will try to do a dry run at the range itself. Taking a look at parking, entry, registration, and "tent city" on the top of the hill. We will also take a look at the sections we have come up with to ensure we are getting the most bang for our buck. If you are in charge of a task at the clean up and want to test your planning out, lets get together! practice makes perfect.

Game cam?

Not sure of the layout there or how well it can be hidden but some food for thought.

That seems like an awesome idea, but what happens after? Say were able to ID the person then what? Slap them with a littering ticket?
Could work and i think word would spread fast!

Default Just up the initial hill

Got a text from a buddy last night that he and his wife wanted to go shooting... off to SP we went!

Had a very safe and fantastic day shooting a variety of weapons! Weather this time of the year is optimal for the outdoors!

Anyway, for those of you that have never seen how bad it can get, here is the hill to the right just after the initial hill at the bottom. It is bad, with plenty of large items! Very busy there this week, with plenty of noobs shooting at the bottom where it is clearly marked no shooting, and another group off on the no shooting area to the east. Where's a BLM ranger when they could be writing tickets?

It is just as bad around the back!

Yeah, both Bullseye and Warrior 1 donated items for the SSZS 2 years ago. I'll check with them later this week.

Default VISITED THE RANGE TODAY

A group of us visited the range today. We changed up a few things, and finalized a lot more. Please be sure to bring your rakes and shovel (HF magnets too!) there were 1000"s of shells on the ground. Please be sure to mark your tools with your name so they get back to you if they become lost. The same goes for any loaner item you may be bringing (such as EZ ups, ice chests etc...)

Darrel had a great idea.....he suggested the need for a storage area, for items you may have brought with you, in the back of your truck! there will be an area set aside behind the food area for this purpose. Although we can not be responsible for your items, they should be secure there. There will be plenty of people on hand.

We still need some side dishes for the pot luck! other then that, looking good!

If there is something on the form that you do not wish to disclose....simply put a line through it! These forms have been around to several events, however not everyone has seen them before. Sometimes they arrive late, or not at all, sometimes people forget until its too late, but! whatever the reason, they exist, and we need to stay in compliance with the BLM's request. Like I said, if you want to cross something off for whatever reason.....feel free to do so! Thank you all. By filling these out ahead of time, it will make the check in process much faster.
going good 30+ responses already

You can fill them out on the day of the event! No problem. We are just trying to get them out so people can review them ahead of time and fill them out to save time in the registration/check in process.

As you could imagine, with a strong possibility of 100+ volunteers, if every single person has to spend 10 minutes reading them and then filling them out.... it could take several hours to get everyone processed and the forms completed and collected.

We are just trying to comply with everyone's requests and make this as quick and painless as possible.

Thanks for stepping up and helping to clean.

FYI - I have contacted the writers of this article in 2014 on SP and invited them to our cleanup Saturday for a follow-up story!

I'll be amazed if we get a response and/or they show up. But it would be good press for all involved!

Before the meeting tonight, I have another suggestion:

It might be a good idea to have some designated "muscle" at the dumpsters to aid in the fastest truck unloads possible. That way the trucks can get back to the outer areas to get more!

... I also have a roll of "yellow caution tape" we could use to fashion a "drive-thru" at the dumpsters with?

Those young guys seeking six pack abs... that six pack turns into keg abs if you don't watch out! LOL!

Thanks Darryl, I would not be surprised if we produce 150 people at this clean up. Although we are not doing it for publicity, it nice to let everyone know that there are responsible gun owners out there. We will also be working with a local 4x4 club to clean the area around the range. There are several spots which have been trashed by shooters and we will be doing our best to leave a good impression with the neighbors. Thanks for any media support you can muster. The support for this project comes from Gun Owners, 4x4 owners, high school students, business owners and employees, girl scouts, honor students, Nurses, Fire fighters and Police Officers. This is a very diverse group of people.

Awesome!

I would like to specifically thank the Corona location, not only did I dros 3 or 4 PPTs in the last few months but they were more than willing to spread the word about the clean up and support everything that CalGuns is doing!

Thanks Mike, Casey, John, and staff.

Standby For a final announcement and pre-briefing-

Default EVENT PROTOCOL FOR 04/02/2016 STEELE PEAK CLEAN-UP

Well, we are down to the wire, on our last thread, the fat lady is taking the stage! ......Please find below the basic protocol for this Saturday's clean up at steele peak.

*FIRST COME FIRST SERVE (SELF) PARKING- it will be our biggest issue of the day! We hope to have volunteers on scene to assist. Please reserve the lower area for small, passenger cars. If your vehicle will make it over the humps, please park in that area. If you are in a 4x4 vehicle, please park on top of the first hill. Please arrive early as we are expecting in excess of 125 people and please carpool when you can.

*REGISTRATION/CHECK-IN-Look for the green EZ up when you arrive. This is the check-in area. After parking, you need to proceed to this area (hopefully with your completed blm waiver) to get checked in, given your raffle tickets and assigned an area to clean. Please arrive early, as we are expecting in excess of 125 people (repeated on purpose)

*ADMINISTRATION AREA-just west of the registration area, there will be several other canopies set up. This will include the Food, Raffle, First Aid and information booth. Aka, the "Administration Area" This is where you will grab a breakfast snack, drop off your raffle tickets and meet our medical staff volunteers.

*BREAKFAST SNACKS-We will have 10 dozen Krispe Kreme donuts (and a few others that aren't) for you to snack on, while you await the 800 am safety/information briefing. We will also have Orange juice, milk, chocolate milk and coffee available. (making it as fast as we can) These will be made available until we run out!!! So please arrive early (did I mention that?)

*LET THE CLEAN-UP BEGIN-after we complete the safety/information briefing we will all scatter to our assigned areas for cleaning. as your vehicle (trucks, bins etc.) are filled with trash, your drivers will return to the dumpster area to unload you debris. We need to unload our debris in a manner which will allow us the most room in the dumpsters so we can fill them up. Remember!!! no HAZ_MAT items in the dumpster (no tires, liquids etc) These items will be set aside in the dumpster area for a special disposal. After you have cleaned your area, please proceed to another area of the range to help other volunteers.

*LUNCH AND RAFFLE-at the conclusion of the clean up we will all be notified to return to the "Administration Area" to begin a relaxing session (bring your lawn chairs) to eat lunch and listen as the FREE raffle prizes are given away to all of our volunteers.

*LET THE SHOOTING BEGIN-after the lunch /raffle period we will contact the BLM rangers and ask that the range be reopened for our use. ***DO NOT BEGIN TO SHOOT UNTIL IT IS ANNOUNCED THAT THE RANGE IS OPEN***

*ARRIVE EARLY-did I mention this? Parking will be one of our issues. Please consider waking up a little early, enjoy some donuts and liquids, and give us a hand setting up. We do have several people with minor disabilities who would appreciate being able to park close to the "admin area" so as I know you will.....please be considerate.

*PORTABLE HAND HELD RADIOS AND CB's-there will be lines of communication set up for the event. If you like, you can bring your radio with you to the event and visit the information booth in the "admin area" for the frequency. The off-roaders at the event will be working off channel 16 (get it 4x4="16")

*RAFFLE PRIZE AND FOOD/DRINK DONATIONS-if you said you would bring any of these items and /or any equipment to the event, please bring these things to the "Admin Area" as soon as you arrive. Please be sure to mark any items you have loaned to the event (with your name on some tape)

If you have any additional comments, suggestions or areas of concern, please send me a message and we will address it.

Thank you! For your help and look forward to meeting with you!

I apologize guys but i have a meeting with a client in long beach Saturday, it was initially planned for Monday but the customer called me last night to reschedule for Saturday.
Im still trying to get it rescheduled to another day but he is leaving the country for 2 months next week and i need to meet with him before he leaves.
I will let you know if i can get it pushed off to later in the day or changed all together but its not looking good!
Again i really wanted to be there and will do my best to make it before or after the meeting, but i just can't afford to not get my foot in the door with this guy.
Sorry guys.

Will there be "special" raffle items for the children who attend, or will they be lumped in with the adults?

We have a special section of the raffle table designated for "Under 18"
This includes toy rifles, nerf guns , Silly string, Hats Etc.

When a raffle number is called for a child they will be directed to this table to select a prize. Real Big Daddy has been hitting up local stores and gather cool little gifts for the children, this way everyone can be involved!

I couldn't resist...

This excerpt is from Recoil Magazine on "Range *****holes"

Quote:
Here’s how to be a Range *******.

1. Don’t pick up your casings and shells.

When it comes to most brass cased ammo people seem to be fairly studious about picking up after themselves. Even if they don’t reload it can be given to a friend who does or sold to reloaders. Not everyone is so polite and assiduous however. The largest two offenders for leaving casings all over the ground are surplus shooters and people who shoot .22 lr (when its actually available). The latter case is particularly vexing; .22lr can be a pain in the dick to clean up. We understand that. However if you shoot it, you pick it up. If you’re on a concrete slab there is no reason you can use a broom and sweep up after yourself –and this goes for any casing.

Dirty surplus steel cased ammo shooters. You know who you are, carrying your Tapco’ed up SKS to the range. You are the bane of our existence. Because your steel cased ammo isn’t reloadable you just leave an entire case’s worth of it shot up on the ground for someone else to deal with. WTF? You literally have the easiest casing of all to clean up. You just have to grab a shop magnet on a stick and wave it around a bunch. You can even use one of the ones that has a release on it so you never have to bend over.

You probably don’t clean up after your dog when he drops a deuce on the sidewalk either. We hope Mike Pannone punches you in the mouth.

Now we know who does it, how do we stop it?

Just checking in. I will be there Saturday. I have a high side 8x8 trailer I'm bringing and a 4wd. I will also be dropping of my raffle prizes in the am. I was going to ship them at my work but our shipping guy thought the 80% was a gun. So I'm bringing it up. See you guys there.

Can't believe I'm skipping a fishing trip to clean up other people s*** I guess that's what we have to do to keep our shooting areas open. Lol
