Default Savage fv-sr CA legal?

Hey guys is the fvsr CA legal? Asking because I want to buy one soon and I know it has a threaded barrel.

Yes. I bought one a couple months ago. It is a typical Savage rifle. Absolutely horrible feeling bolt and a really, really crappy stock (well Savage laminated stocks are nice). But it makes one tiny hole at 100 yards. Typical Savage.

Big 5 had them on sale on two adds recently, with the Savage $25 rebate price was $289, then a couple weeks later $259 Kryptek with a scope.
I picked one up.

wow, that is a screaming deal!
I was deciding between this, the Marlin XT22, CZ452 and the Ruger american. I ended up getting the Ruger compact with threaded barrel. I felt like the fit and finish and the ability to use 10/22 mags was worth the extra money. But, I don't think you can really go "wrong" any of those choices. The savage and marlin are an excellent value.

Totally legal.
You may be thinking of threaded barrel pistols. Those are illegal here.
These are great little rifles.
Mine is very accurate. Good choice.

Sent using 2 cans and a long string.

I ordered one from Bud's to my LGS (169.00 a couple years ago) LGS employee immediately freaks out, says its illegal, starts measuring length says it might be an SBR etcetc..(the gun is small) Then I point out a couple things, "you have an .22 AR style on the rack right there with a threaded barrel" "relax partner it has a 16" barrel, Bud's would never ship an SBR to CA" sigh....

I'm going with the DIP brake and a Boyds Pro Varmint stock, just need to decide on black stock or nutmeg laminate.

I got more details from my friend. The main reason not to use this kind of fake can was because GSG MP5 SD got into trouble. ATF said the fake can on GSG mp5 was illegal.

Seems like shroud over barrel is fine. Fake can extended over barrel with bullet side hole at the other end is unknown.

I can never understand the ATF???

The ATI/GSG GEG-5SD issue...

When first evaluated by BATFE, the fake SD shroud was legal.

Later on GSG made some manufacturing changes to it, which BATFE then determined as illegal because it actually reduced the sound signature by a few dB. This made it a Title 2 Silencer and illegal without BATFE approval/$200 tax stamp.
