Default SKS & FRIEND(S) IN THE PIPE...update picts post #24

Hi Fellas,

Thanks to the enabler, TMB 1, I've got a shipping confirmation on one of Pacific's $250 SKSs. Since I'm such a cheap bastiage, I've got an M44 mix master coming to put on the same DROS, and waiting to hear on a Russian SKS to hopefully add too. Thanks, again T, PAX

In my east coast detour, I have not yet encountered this distributor.

Are these gunsmith specials?

It didn't say so. If you click on the link, search "sks".

It's the "SKS, 7.62x39mm with Bayonet" option. A camo spiker with a backward spring sling and rubber butt pad. Looks decosmosed & kinda ugly former shooter. But I'll wait for the up close and personal once over.

If it's matching, I'll straighten it out. If not Bubba will have his way with it. Can't go wrong at that price. PAX

How long did it take before you got a shipping notice? I placed an order for one yesterday and now I see that Pacific no longer has them available on the site. Once you get it, please post an update with pics.

I think they were "building" these $250 SKS's as there was a time frame mentioned in the ad as to how long of a wait there would be, they musta run outta spare parts to build the cheapies with.

Gonna be interesting to see what shows up fer $250!!!

Just got the shipping confirmation today. Pacific t&g called a day ago indicating I got the last one. They wanted to know if I still wanted the order to go through since this rifle would be non matching numbers and the stock wouldn't be painted the camo color. I replied " As long as she shots, I'll be happy."

I never got a shipping notice (tracking #), but they did process and invoice the sale immediately. There was a slight hang up in that I had sent them a copy of my FFL's license, but not the CFLC number (never bought from an out of state dealer before), which took me a day to get to them. Pacific's camo SKS arrived at my FFL Friday, the same day as an M44 that I horse traded a Turk VZ24 for. I'd been in St. Louis for some training last week, so I haven't seen either one yet. Also, my FFL is holding back the paper chase while I finalize another trade, GEW88 for M39 Mosin, another Russian SKS (as yet to be seen & an offer submitted), and a Henry Big Boy Steel in .41 mag. that I'm waiting confirmation on. PAX

Just got back from my FFL to give my latest acquisitions the once over. To say the least I'm happy. The slingless, mismatched, refurbed M44, looks like it went door to door, rousting Nazis in Stalingrad. TBM 1's Pacific SKS lead, was in fact a very nice deal for the money. The listed picture was accurate. Ugly leaf-rattle-can-camo paint job, made uglier with add on rubber recoil and backwards installed spring attached sling......but
ALL MATCHING NUMBERS, even the wood, with cleaning rod & kit in the stock. Late pinned barrel /26\ with a good crown, shinny bore, decent bluing, tiny CAI import stamp under spiker. Didn't check the sear engagement, but otherwise it looks like an easy save/resto project, at a fair price. I'm thinking the paint strip efforts will equal decosmofizing. One more SKS in the rack, thanks T PAX

Hi Fellas,

Finally got around to picking up my $250 SKS from my FFL. This is the mongrel dog as received. After giving it a close look over I found some features I've not seen before. First was the sling. I haven't encountered spring retainers with that type of adjustment hasp, usually those have a keeper with a slide. Pinned barrel, milled TG, grey bolt carrier.

I was mistaken on the arsenal. It's /416\# 21006149. All matching, bolt too, but the stock couldn't be easily salvaged, so I turned the Khyber Pass Fab Team loose on it. Looks like someone tried to "battle" age it, with kill hash marks and scratches, couple drill holes. Does not reek of "been there done that" NOT. Bubba screwed up a good piece of wood, but it's only a Chinese...right.

After the moral equivalent of decosmolizing (paint stripping), the metal bits revealed quite a surprise.

Half a day of elbow grease between chores, and look what was under it all. Doesn't look to have been fired much, at all.

I had a nice pinned barrel side sling mount stock on it at first, but it was numbered.

Replaced with a blank pinned stock instead.

Didn't strip the bayo handle or cleaning rod yet, but it's an operationally functioning battle rifle. For now I'm done. Khyber Pass Fabrication Shop saves another. Thanks TBM 1 & Glocked@45, PAX

Very well done! You did an excellent job at bringing it back to its original glory. If you only showed the after pictures I wouldn't be able to tell anything was done.

Glad you put that stock to good use and your very welcome, it takes a village to raise an SKS.

Awe come on, you would have nailed that smooth finish on the stock. Although, my 416 finish is smooth like that, darker reddish color, but smooth. Come to think of it, I paid $249 for it... coincidentally enough in PAXs backyard, at SKT gun exchange..... mine was a public security rifle.

Nice work PAX! Good score!

Thanks. What year was that when you got your PS from SGE? That seems like 4 or 5 years ago prices. Did they know what they had, or was it just a Chinese SKS to them? PAX
