Default Boggs Mountain Range Clean Up, Middletown CA

Howdy Friends!

** Calling all Lake / Mendo / Napa / Sonoma County shooters **

Looks like we need to pay some attention to another Northern California designated shooting area.

Boggs Mountain State Forest in Middletown, CA.

This range needs some help! A member ( HuDuVuDu) has been going up often making attempts at picking up. But honestly, the range is in need of ALLOT of help!

Correspondence with the rangers are attempting to lock in a date for maintenance on the range.

When we get a solid date, I'll post it!

Thanks REDPATCH. I am in contact with the people in charge. They said they will contact me after labor day. All the correspondence from them is very positive. They are thankful for the help. I have been going up about every other week and it has been getting worse. Last time I was up there someone had shot up an old Computer and CRT monitor. There are lots of shot up fire extinguisher / shaving cream cans / Satellite dishes.

As a side note there is no running water up there. So on the date we will all need to bring plenty of water.

I am heading up on Friday. I will take some pictures to post.

Thanks for any help we can get.

I have a few friends that shoot up at Boggs.
Once you get a date set, I imagine I could probably have at least 4 people and a truck or two out there.

Default Bogg's Clean-up

Hi Folks,

I am the Support Section Leader for the California State Militia inthis area,
we will be training in Lake County on the 14th and 15th of Sept. and would be happy to perform some range maintenance. Contrary to what the media says, we are actually a "Civic Service Group".

I will be camping at Ridge Camp, so if any local Calguns members wish to meet with me, and give some input other than debris removal that would be welcome. We can also coordinate larger projects, as supervisors from the Lower Redwood Empire and Sacramento areas will be present.

Clint

Sadly there has not been anymore updates. I have been contacted my the person in charge but not about the range clean up. They have contacted me about helping clean up the trails and other areas of the forest.

It sort of bugs me that they said they would contact me to schedule this event and they have not, but they have asked if "our group" would help clean up other areas.

I will contact them again.

On a side note: I have a camping trip planned for the weekend of 10/4-10/6 with some family and friends @ Bogg's if anyone would like to come out for the weekend or just out to the range for the day, I will be there.

i guess we are in the timezone of crts back like in the late 90s early oughts with obsolite propane tanks(non opd,non-triangle valve) there was like 40 in a big heap at cow mountain

hopefully the crt days will come and go quickly another mess is compact disks

one would think the place should be riddled with vcr's but i guess they are just the right size to throw in the trash

I just got back from my trip to Boggs. It was a great trip. Yes the range is the cleanest I have ever saw it. There was minimal trash, left over wood/targets. All the appliances were gone. There was still a bunch of brass/shells on the ground, but so much better than it has been. I still could not get in touch with anyone. Thank you all for your efforts in keeping our ranges open and clean. My daughter has a blast when we go out there.

Wow I just got an email from the folk at Boggs. They would like to schedule the range closure for clean up the weekend of Dec 7/8. Does this work for people? I don't want to confirm with them if we are not going to have a good turn out. It will be cold. I just camped there a few weeks ago and it was already getting cold at night.

Let me know

Any way the supervising authority could provide a permanent dumpster up there? Would encourage people to dispose of their chit properly

We may as well just set up a seasonal cleanup for every shooting location in the Sonoma/Mendo county areas, as well as get authorization/fuding to post a signage saying something about how CalGuns does its part to keep the range clean and open for public use....

or whatever.

Tentatively in, depending on work and family holiday meeting schedule. Though I'd rather hang out with a bunch of armed dudes than my family.

Boggs is BLM, right? Is Joe the one you've been in contact with? If so, shoot me a pm.

is it so hard to haul your crap out to the front near the outhouses if your crap is to big to fit in that can you shouldn't be shooting it

I believe Boggs falls under BLM. It is a demonstration forest. Joe has not been my contact. I will ask about the chances of having a dumpster provided. Unlikely but I will ask. I was planing on bringing both my SUV to help haul stuff out. Aswell as bring a battery powered saw to cut down the plywood to making hauling out easier.

I will be there with my wife and 7 year old daughter. She shoots enough out there to help with the clean up. After the clean up is complete we will stay and shoot (then clean up) so if anyone has youngers that want to shoot I have a youth sized .22 bolt action.

I will let them know that, that weekend should work.

I replied to their email for that weekend. I will be there bright at early as my mom lives 15 min away.
Please bring gloves, trashbags, shovel/rakes, and plenty of stuff to drink. Maybe we can all organize to each bring a food item to have a group lunch.

Thanks for your support.

Looks like it's state owned, by Calfire. Mind PM'ing me the contact info for whoever you've been talking to? I may have a few strings I can pull.

is not. People are lazy. I bring paper targets and my own target stand wherever I go. I did shoot a can of shaving cream once. I have to admit I did leave the cream there once I shot the can. The can came home and was tossed in the recycle bin.

I work in the waste disposal industry, so I understand the complexities of getting people to do the right thing with their garbage. Is fooked.

not sure what the regulations are for wood cutting but there are a bunch of fallen trees and limbs that if bucked up would make the place look a bit more organized even to use them as a firing line or edging around the area

Is it a drive in place, accessible by regular cars? If so, I could head up. Never been but been on enough public land as a youngster to know how bad these places can get.

What time? And if you are taking votes, I would much prefer Sat to Sunday. Even though my Vikings are sucking this year, they generally make a game of the first half.

The road up to the range is very bumpy and there are large roots/rock/holes everywhere. My dads minivan can make it out there. Also if we get some good rain around that time it will be slick and muddy. I was planing in getting there Saturday around 9. Sadly I'm with you the Vikings have been in the suck.

More information from the folks at boggs

" The forest staff /Cal Fire will take care of the haul away.

We can provide trash bags and about 10 trash pickers.

*

Once we hear back from your group which day works best we will post notices*in*the forest and online.

We will also close*the access road for the duration of the clean up.* It would be great if you can give us*the time and a time frame in which you expect to be at the range. This would help with the planning."

I was planing for Saturday starting around 9.

I know it is a long drive so whenever other people can be there is fine.
My family will start in the morning.

When i started this whole thing that place was trashed. Now the last few times i went out there it was fairly clean. It will still be helpful to clean it up some more.

There have been others that have said they will help. But you are the only one that has put your self on the list. I will most definitely be there.

I told the calfire folk that we would probably make use of the range after we clean it up.

On a side note there is a Christmas tree lighting in hidden Valley lake Saturday night (4-6) with santa and hot chocolate / cookies.

So if anyone is bringing kids and would like to check it out you are welcome to join.

On the subject is anyone bringing kids? (Other than me.)

Scheduled December 7th 9am-noon. We will meet in the parking lot as you enter the gate at 9am. At 9:30 we can head to the range. Carpooling for those that dont think their car will make it. I will be there at 8:30. Look for the silver subaru forester.

I am tentative. With a 3 yo and a 10 month old, that's the best you are gonna get out of me until I get up that very morning to roll out. Barring any puking kids, or other unforeseen crisis, I plan on going.
