I don't remember the unit name but I graduated basic training from Fort Dix, NJ in 1989. I just want the hell out of dodge...On second thought I think I was Bravo Company. I suppose I could log into AKO and look it up but I really don't care to do that.

Well, we were definitely there at the same time, but I probably picked up way before you. I busted up my lower leg pretty bad in 1st phase and became the Grand Ol' Man of MRP. I was at MCRD of 7 months.

What was that 4 week thing after boot camp called? MCT? Marine Combat Training? I don't think they do it anymore. Anyway, it rained on us that whole month at Pendleton, but I don't remember "the flood." It rained again like crazy when I was in SOI.

Trying to climb Mt. Muther****er in the pouring rain was comical. Marines slip-sliding away back down to the bottom, sometimes taking other Marines with them, going back up, slipping back down, bowling over more Marines, up, down... hysterical. Some guys were trying to ride their rubber b*tches down the back side of the mountain like a bobsled. I have fond memories of that day.

Home of movie stars, girls in bars, sunscreen and shades.
We were too cool to sweat the sand fleas.
We were glad that there was Parris Island, so someone could have a rough time in boot camp.

Platoon 1084, Bravo Company, November 7, 1980. In time for USMC.

My buddy went in a week later. He seemed to have completely different experience.

From time to time, he actually had to work up a sweat.

Semper FI!!!

Isn't that funny? 40 years and you can still remember it like yesterday... it has only been 18 years for me, and yes I can remember it like it was yesterday also. I am sure after 40 years, it will still be fresh. Life altering experience is an understatement!

Semper fi!
