Many thanks to Jarhead for re-working this old mommasan Sino-Albanian SKS. This thing was is in really rough shape but with Jarhead's magic, he turned mommasan into a beautiful Chinese Doll. Some before photos.....
![]() ![]() ![]() Some pitting, surface rust, and a huge crack right down the middle of the upper hand guard. Dirty as hell too as mommasan was used and abused in what looked like to be a drill rifle. Huge crack at the bottom of the butt plate as well. |

And of course she shoots great. It took me a while to get her zeroed but I had all day and I was doing 3 shots groups. 25 yards on the bench using m67 Yugo ammo. I think I made about 6 adjustments with my SKS tool but at the end of the day she is ready for war.
![]() ![]() and she keywholed right there in the bull's eye three in a row and right there I knew she was zeroed. And I finished the day with some rapid fire and messing about on the rifle she was designed to kill. Killing Germans on the Eastern Front in 1945. Many thanks to Jarhead who I haven't even met in person but his work is just outstanding. If you guys ever need a restoration project he is the man to go to!! I highly recommend and the scary part is he is fast at doing it...yet he does it 110%. ![]() |

Thanks, all the credit in the world to Jar Head. As for shooting...well that's my cup of tea lol. Most people are shocked that a big fat round like the 7.62X39 can actually do that more so with an SKS.
I know it's only 25 yards but that bull's eye is just a little dot at that distance. This is with iron sights too with the leaf setting set on the -n-. In theory this gives me a battlefield zero up to 300 yards. I think I will zero it one more time just to make sure (I have OCD) and then take it to the long range. I think she will do great. |

Thanks guys! It is always an "Honor and a Privilege" to bring those old war horses back to life weather it is mechanical, cosmetic or both. The reward I get back is seeing that smile a mile wide and sometimes a little tear.

SKSer45,
The rifle looks great! I can't believe that's the same handguard, I didn't think that crack would close up. Also what was up with the original buttplate, how do you actually wear a hole thru the edge? Drag it behind a truck? |

Jarhead, what do you do about pitted areas? I'd like to know your method for cleaning those up, and if you always do a complete reblue or do you have a spot treatment you use?
Nice work by the way! |

Well I didn't do it lol. I'm sure the poor commie troop who was drilling all day, smashing his rifle on the ground did. That, or that rifle was cracking some skulls lol. I highly doubt that.
