EAA Bounty Hunter.
It often can be found for around $200. Some stores occasionally put them on sale in the $180 range.

Ruger 22/45.
It can be found for under $300.

S&W 22A. Best gun for the $. I love mine. Accurate as snot. Rail set up for a scope if you're into that. Check one out.

Depends on what you're looking for.

- Phoenix Arms HP22A is a great budget gun, so long as you take good care of it, and use the appropriate ammunition - Phoenix Arms is also known to have great customer service should anything go wrong (i.e, your frame cracks).

- The list price for any Ruger Mk is going to be a lot higher than reality, same goes for their SR22. Decent prices if you're looking at the 22/45 models, but no matter what, you're getting a Ruger. Great quality firearms for the price.

- If you're okay with a revolver, the Heritage Mfg. Rough Rider is a SA revolver that comes in .22LR / .22 WMR. Can be had for <$190 out the door from Turner's, when they have them on sale. Supposed to be a pretty good gun for the money, with the finish being the primary issue if any.

To be fair, any Turner's location. Their website has weekly sales that show various offerings on sale. I lucked out and caught sales for both the Ruger SR22 (love it), and the Heritage RR (have yet to make it out to the range with it, just sprung it outta jail).

I've seen nothing to suggest that the weekly Turner sales are restricted to any one location, though I know that sometimes certain deals are unavailable in Reseda for whatever reason (I've noticed that the restricted firearms are usually in 9mm, seen nothing restricted in .22LR).

EDIT: As it stands, Turner's is currently having a sale (through the 25th) on several .22's, though I can't be sure of what's in your price range. No RR though. Good luck with your search!

I'm throwing my hat in for the Ruger 22/45

Though, the mags are about $30 ea, so factor that in if you plan on buying more mags.

Spend a bit more and get a Ruger MKI/II/III series or a Browning Buckmark.
Both are high quality, very reliable and will last a lifetime or two.

If you have to go low cost then the HP22 has quite the following but then again there are plenty of threads about broken ones too.

For a cheap revolver there's the Heritage Rough Rider.

I vote for the rough rider if you like single action cylinder gun or sr22 for semi.

The best value for the money in my opinion is a Ruger blued Mark III Target. Under $400 and every bit as good as the fancier Mark pistols. A buck or two more than the other alternatives mentioned in this thread, but worth it to get perhaps the best .22 pistol out there.

Thanks again for the suggestions, I was on the fence about getting a S&W 22A or a phoenix arms 22 I saw for $200, I took a chance and went to turners in Rancho and found a Ruger sr22 for $320, groped it and immediately said "I'll take it". Now to wait 10 days, I'll post pics when it's home.

+1 on the Ruger MK2 and 3. MK2 over the 3, since the 3 can have functionality problems because of all the safety crap they added (specifically the LCI).

I would recommend against the Sig Mosquito because they are notoriously jam-o-matic. I've seen several come into my local range (at least 8) and never seen a happy customer or more than 30 rounds go off without a hitch.

I know a guy who loves his Neos... And remember those being inexpensive?

Yeah I heard that the mosquito is really picky with the ammo, you'd have to buy expensive ammo which defeats the purpose of owning a 22 in he first place.

A Walther P22 can be had for less than $400.

Although, that Ruger SR22 is a good price at $329.

Congrats! I have a Phoenix Arms 22. It's fine for what it is, and serves the purpose I have in mind for it. I've probably shot around 1000+ rounds in it. I broke the hammer (probably my fault clearing a jam) and they fixed it and gave me 3 mags. It's not really a target or range pistol, though. It's not built to that standard. The SR22, however, seems to fit the bill perfectly. *that* will last a long , long time. I really need to buy one. Hmm maybe tomorrow, thanks OP!

My niece and nephew shot the SR22 last month at Burro they loved it so I went out and bought one. Break it out on the 28th I did have some FTF issues but I was using old ammo. Just got a brick from Cabelas I'll see how that goes.

Awesome gun, like the guy at calarms in ontario told me, "I feel like robocop when I'm holding this" lol

So when all is said and done, ordering from gunbroker, how much do you end up paying in shipping fees, taxes.. ect.. Thats the only thing that holds ,e back from buying online.

Having worked at a shop/range that rented guns I'd never recommend a S&W 22, p-22, mosquito or Neos. They just don't hold up. Get a gun proven to hold up to +1,000,000 rounds like a Buckmark or Ruger MK series or 22/45. If you want to go used, look for a High Standard Browning Challenger or Colt Woodsman.

You will love your SR22p. An excellent pistol. Far better than the Mosquito, which is a Jam-o-Matic.

I'll vouch for the S&W 22A. I have one in stainless and put a red dot sight on it. It's accurate and I have had no trouble with reliability. I'll have a few misfires out of a Remington or Winchester bulk 22 junk ammo, but it loves mini mags.

I don't know if these are in the low price range for .22's but my favorites are the M&P22 and the Mosquito. I like that they are full size pistols to emulate their center-fire counterparts and they look better than 10/22 or 22/45 type plinkers. People bash the Mosquito because they don't understand it... they think they can use cheap bulk ammo right off the bat without a hitch, there is a break-in period for the first 100-200 rounds with CCI or the like and then you can start using the bulk stuff. The M&P22 doesn't really have that problem as you can start using the bulk stuff from the get go. I just like Sig's and their DA/SA controls better.

I have a S&W 22A that's a very good shooter for the price. I picked mine up when they were closer to $200 than the price they are now. I believe my 22A has a 4 inch barrel. It has the regular grips. I'm sure it was the cheapest model at the time. It likes just about any kind of ammo and is extremely accurate. I put a red-dot sight on the rail and the 22A will put a bullet where the dot is if you do your job.

My other suggestion is to look for a used Ruger MK II pistol. They show up every now and then for close to $300. You can't go wrong with a Ruger and unless the gun has been abused or damaged, a used Ruger will still have plenty of years to go before you'd have to fix anything. -

Ruger Mark III, or the 22/45 if you want a more traditional grip angle.

I would also concur that you'll likely enjoy the sr22. My wife's is easy to rack, easy to load the mag and so far 0 ftf or fte.

Congrats man! Hope you enjoy yours as much as I'm enjoying mine. Thinking about going down to On-Target today too. Good luck with finding ammo now to feed it. Just be patient, and you'll find good deals online, I'm at 1500+ including all the stuff I've shot, and I've yet to pay more than $35 for a brick.

I just went through this, lamenting not being able to find a cheap .22. I ended up scoring a used Walther P22 for $170, it looks brand new. I know a lot of folks naysay the Walther and Sig Mosquito since they're ammo finicky but I've shot a bunch of remington golden bullet through the walther without issues.

Cool, where did you find it for that price? Yeah it's going to be a fun time hunting for .22.

Default 22 Issues

[QUOTE=mrrabbit;11868548]One of the reasons people keep blaming .22 LR pistols for "their" problems is a failure to understand the following:

1. Manufacturers build them with specific velocity ranges / muzzle energy ranges.

2. Manufacturers build them with specific cartridge nose type capability.

HP 22A:

- Requires 950-1150 fps (Standard Velocity)
- Requires lead round nose

Sig Mosguito

- Requires 1200-1300 fps (High Velocity) by default
- Requires plated round nose
- Once broken in, optional spring included allows for standard velocity.

And because considerably less energy is available from the expended round for a gun that is only 10-20 percent smaller than its bigger brothers - these pistols timings for semi-auto function are more sensitive to poor shooting technique.

They also have pretty steep feed ramps into the chamber.

But what constantly happens...

"Hey man, let me rent that Sig Mosguito. Oh, and give me a couple boxes of those Mini-Mags!!!"

...and of course the renter walks into the range shooting hollow point Mini-Mags instead of round nose Mini-Mags.

"Hey man, hand me a couple boxes of those Blazers, I'm gonna shoot my HP 22A!"

...and of course, the FFL dealer blows a brain synapse or two and looks at the punk straight in the eye and says:

"Do you even read the manual???"

But no what do we end up with?

Countless YouTube video and posts everywhere:

"Aw dude! The HP 22A sucks! After 500 rounds of CCI Blazer, my frame cracked! Phoenix Arms is crap!"

"The Sig Mosguito sucks dude! Can't shoot Federal 745 through it without a mis-feed or jam every 10 rounds!"

"Here's a video of my girlfriend shooting here SR 22! See! The damn thing jams!"

Yes, we do see. We see your girlfriend tilting the barrel 45 degrees skyward with each shot threatening the neighbors...

My point is, folks need to be considerably more detailed about their failures with .22 LR pistols AND be willing to admit that they themselves are a factor.

WELL said mrrabbit. Everyone who complains about a certain model semi handgun should read your post right after reading the owners manual.
I have both a Phoenix Arms HP 22A and a
Ruger Mark III
Both are AWESOME and flawless handguns after being run as per the manuals, although I do favor the Ruger.

I picked my cheap Walther up from a random guy I used to work with that I crossed paths with while chopping firewood. I complained about not being able to find a cheap 22 he says ill sell you mine you pick the shop for transfer. The stars must have been aligned or some such nonsense.

forget low-cost. Buy a Model 41 and you won't need another .22

Quality matters.
