Why not use a tag system? Like you get to tag 10 things in your sale.

If you're selling a HK P7M8 in LA you can tag "Pistol, Handgun, SoCal, LA, Los Angeles, 90210, HK P7M8" and people could easily search/browse off that if you have filters.

I think there should be a mandatory field in each listing that states nor cal or so cal that way when you search you can just add your area and get the relevant results only.

Have you purchased a used gun on calguns and had it shipped? You would pay 35 for shipping and another 75 "handling feee" for a gunstore to accept and DROS the gun, thats +100 cash might as well buy brand new locally.

I like it the way it is now split between long and short, but it kills me when I find a deal only to open the thread and find out it is out of my region. Require location be the second word of the thread title! Example: WTS- So Cal, rare Glock, $$$

Sure I might drive to Nor Cal (twice) for a smokin' deal, but that would be the exception, not the norm. Can't have everything.

I like the split between long and handgun but would like to see the location enforced in the header. Some have it some don't so you have to open the listing to know where the seller is located. Also would be great to enforce listing "WTS/WTT" in the heading.

Not sure f there is still a possibility of making changes but I would like to make a suggestion.

I like how the long guns and hand guns are split but I would like to see sub-forums in each forum based on geographic location of where the sale would take place. Finding SF Bay Area postings is pretty frustrating.

I like the idea of location being required in titles rather than a north-south spit. I'm indifferent on the long gun handgun spit, as I always use the search function when looking for a particular gun. I would guess it means more to those whom browse.

To solve both issues, what if a zip code and "distance from zip" search was implemented. Zip is provided by seller. That way with search, you can find firearms within say 300 miles, even if you are over the "geographic line."

Adding a required N or S icon to the left of the headline text would be a simple and significant improvement. If you want to get wild then add a C for central CA for all the floaters.

So what do you do if you in Fresno? This is why the N/S split wont work. Why not just combine pistol & Rifle and when people come in they can search for their city and bamm they get the everything available to them based on city and then they can further define their search.

Nah, don't. It works just fine as is. Some of us can travel. Some sellers ship. The only thing needed is location included in the title by the seller.

I'm a real estate agent so I'm use to having a lot of data at my fingertips...wish we had "Sold Price" and "list price" comparables so we can post firearms more efficiently...it would give SCAR sellers/buyers better insight on pricing...

Kes, you need an "other, explained below" vote.

Let's take a step back. Why do we want any split? We want a split so we can see and find what we want in a logistically easy way.

I think it would be most useful if the title of the post has ALL the common info so people can search or sort the posts themselves.

The poster that says a NorCal/SoCal icon is a good start.
I think it should have region, type, caliber, make, model, and ship/noship at a min. I think we should also change the rule to 1 post per item. Max, say, 3 per poster concurrently.

If the location is posted in the tile, which it often is not the pistol rifle split works well. It can be frustrating to click then find out the location is 400 miles away and no shipping.
But just search your location to whats up.

It's fine how it is...no worries.
If your going to change it just allow mixed ads.

I agree, the last Item I bought was was from NY, I did not know that until I looked later. I myself am not a fan of private sales from another state. It turned out ok. I think like tanner, the title should read, (Chico) yadda, yadda, yadda.

Doesn't really work. You'd have to search dozens of times for all the cities near you and all the possible combinations of area descriptions.

For example, if I searched my area nothing would show up from the dozens of towns that make up the Sac Area. If I searched Sac Area, nothing would show up from those towns either, and nothing would show up that said 'Sacramento Area'. That could only work if every profile required a zip code and you could search like 'withing 100 miles of zip 12345'.

I'm still in favor of 5-6 region subforums, then a separate 'will ship' subforum.

Then you'd only have to check your area, perhaps a neighboring area, and if so inclined, the Will Ship listings.

There are several threads that have both a handgun and a long gun, what happens to them and do we make/allow multiple threads per user one in each forum?

I need to think about this a bit, as difficult as it is I think a North/South split might be better in the long run.

I can see it working one of two ways:
A stated line, if you're above Fresno it's Nor cal, below Fresno it's So Cal.
Or a seller based option, if you consider where you live So Cal post it in that forum, same for Nor Cal Calgunners.

I'm going to discuss this with the Mods but in addition to that I want to see what the people who use the marketplace prefer.
