Default Winchester Model 12

Does anyone have an idea of the value of a Winchester model 12, from 1955? I'd say condition was very good. And what about replacement parts availability. How do they compare to 870's, 500's?

Lots of variable to consider -

12/16/20/28 gauge?
Plain barrel/solid rib/factory rib/Simmons aftermarket rib? Donut/two post?

Skeet grade/trap grade/diamond/field etc

Cutts comp or poly choke, or a factory Cutts?

Barrel length, stock style, etc

Basically, anywhere from a couple hundred bucks to various four figure marks depending…

Personally, they’re among my favorite and have more than a couple

Still parts availability but nowhere near 870s or 500s; also a little harder to work on. I need a cartridge cutoff for one of mine and it’s been out of stock from Numrich for some time.

If it functions, at $500 with the ability to slam-fire, it’s a steal.

Don't know how well it will hold up to steel or Tungsten shot.

It's 2 steps above an 870 and 200 steps above a 500

I have several in my spare parts kit, PM me and I’ll send you one. It might not be new, but it’ll get an old workhorse back in action again.

I’ve run just about everything through all of mine, with chokes of all types, and have never seen any detrimental effects. The Belgian Brownings, however, have not fared so well.

You think only 2 above an 870? I’d like to think maybe more, but I fully agree with the ranking over a 500.

The Mod 12 is one of the best built pumps of all time, but i prefer 870s. I own several Mod 12s, several 870s. The 870 is more modern, more versatile, fine with steel shot, lots of accessories and parts available. Whether the 12 is "better" for you depends on what you want to do with it. I gave my Ithaca 37 to my brother, and sold my 500 cheap (because it's a pig in comparison to the others). The Mod 12 pictured is clean, but nothing special, and the stock has apparently been cut. $500 may be a bit optimistic.

I had a Model 12. I sold it. I have owned at least 4 Remington 870s and they are superior to the Model 12.
