I assume eventually if they decide to NOT renew the lease, there are legal options correct? (Similar to what Drakes Bay Oyster Co. did at Point Reyes).

Its likely that the Chabot range is one of, if not the most lucrative leases that the East Bay Parks has....potentially losing that WITH the threat of a long expensive lawsuit seems like something the park should avoid.

Let's hope so.

Seems, everyone is being ignored by the board.

I don't want to do anything until we get the go ahead, but is it about time to start calling and emailing the board members? At least the ward where Chabot is and your local ward?

Posted this on the other thread.
Write or e-mail the EBRPD board members. Explain the value of the range to yourself and the community.

News not posted elsewhere: Chabot got its 1 year lease extension, after a very well-attended public hearing before the East Bay Regional Park district on November 18th. The vote was unanimous to extend for one year, which gives time for environmental review, that Chabot is good with.

http://chabotgunclub.com/lease-updates/

Also, Chabot is now on FB: https://www.facebook.com/ChabotGunClub

Edit to add: Send email to keeptherangeopen@chabotgunclub.com which is Chabot's own, let them know you support them and want to be kept informed of developments. And as if it needed to be said, become a range member fer gawd's sake, it helps the range when they can point not just to signatures on a petition, or voices in a hearing, but to paid-up membership.

Glad to hear that. That place is really nice and an asset to the community.

Yep, becoming a member really helps to support the range. I use their public lanes relatively seldom but extended the membership anyway. We all need to chip in or there will be no range eventually.
BTW, it was very crowded there this weekend - the business is good!

Chabot Gun Club-Safe and valuable community resource
Petition by Jason Siegel

To be delivered to Ayn Wieskamp, President, EBRPD board of directors

We support the Chabot Gun Club marksmanship range as a safe place to shoot. This is a valuable community resource in that it promotes firearms training and safe use among local citizens.
There are currently 6,066 signatures. NEW goal - We need 7,500 signatures!

Also send a polite letter, fax, email or call the East Bay Regional Park District board of directors. Express your support for the range. A clear, polite and detailed expression is what is required not a crazy rant.
