Sweet. I can likely do a spring shoot, depending on if anything comes up at work or not.

Hey guys yup sad valley will be happening, I don't know if there is anything in Jan or Feb as they tend to be low attendance. It will ramp up for the rest of the year though.

Keep in mind I didn't go look at the rwva site to check the schedule either.

Looking forward to my first Appleseed with my son and daughter. I bought my two grandsons 10/22s for their first birthdays and made the statement every kid should have a 10/22 to learn how to shoot, care for and respect. My daughter let me know immediately that I did not give her and and her brother rifles when they were kids. Ah crap, foot in mouth. Well they did learn, with my rifles. Son, daughter and son in law all got 10/22’s for Christmas. When will the Sacramento range be hosting an event? Red Bluff could also work. Looking forward to a great weekend.

Is there overnight camping at these events? Like back of a pickup truck?

It's great fun, I've done two (dragging a friend along for the second) and earned my Appleseed Rifleman's patch.

I'll go again in a few years when my girls are old enough!

Thanks for the information!

I just bought an M1A (my first non-.22LR rifle), and I love it. However, I've never had formal training on rifles and would like some expert guidance. Would the Sacramento courses below teach me basic marksmanship and rifle skills?

Best,
Doug

Hat Creek has free camping. No fires. No electricity or running water on site. Port-a-Johns.

Red Bluff has no camping available on site.

Sac Valley I believe allows fully self contained camping. I would contact the range office to find out for sure on that one.

Hope that helps. I know there are campgrounds in the area around the Sac Valley range. I'm not sure of any near Red Bluff.

Yes they would. My suggestion would be to bring the .22LR as well as the M1A. Realizing that we will shoot approx 500+ rounds over a weekend. Some people like to do the bulk of the learning on the .22 then switch over maybe on Sunday. You'll have less recoil to deal with while you are learning to put what we teach to work. I'm not saying you can't shoot the m1a all weekend. Have had folks do it. It's just a suggestion.

Thanks! I think I'll follow your suggestion and bring my Ruger 10/22 as well. It definitely simplifies things (and requires less muscle to handle!).

Will I need a sling?

I shot my 4th Appleseed this last fall at Red Bluff. I was shooting an AR right next to two guys shooing .308's. By the end of Saturday, the 308's were in the vehicles and the .22's were in position. There is a lot of shooting and a big centerfire can be brutal!

Yep, you need a sling like those that can be purchased from the online Appleseed store or other places.

I'm confirmed for the Project Appleseed event in Sacramento in March!

This page suggests the following as preparation:
It’s a good idea to get down into the prone position and dry-fire ten shots “by the numbers.” If you will do this three times a week, you’ll be way ahead of everyone else. Hey, while you’re at it, put a GI web sling on your rifle, and get it adjusted so it supports the rifle in prone, too.
https://appleseedinfo.org/how-to-prepare/

Can anyone point me to a good video describing how to do this? Thanks!

Signed up for the Red Bluff class in March, looks as if I’m still the only one.

NorCal22Gal, would the class be cancelled or rescheduled if participation is low?

Nope. You'll just get loooots of attention. It's very likely we'll get more as the event gets closer.

You can always bring some friends!

google search some old military (ww2 era) videos on three position shooting. Mostly you'll find as you go through the weekend that you will have sore muscles. It's like yoga for riflemen.....

Look forward to seeing you in a few weeks.
