Got the call yesterday from Det Gonzales. Very professional and he offered an appointment for 5-23-14 which I happily took. My live scan date was 3-19-14.

Thumbs up

Dropped off and did fingerprints on April 17th. I'm still within the 6 weeks, but I hope they get to me soon. In the meantime, I picked up a G26 from Glockworx (ZEV Technologies) and had them throw a non-adjustable duty trigger in it. Same trigger pull, just a lot more crisp and it feels better. Also added the Pierce base plates so the little thing feels normal. Shoots great!

CoryB, probably too late for your Glock but there has been some controversy about putting SSEs onto your permit and about modified guns too and what constitutes a modified gun. Is that a Gen 4? I am not a Glock person so I can't tell. Does a trigger job or aftermarket trigger constitute a modified gun? I don't know. If it does, does it matter, is a modified gun okay to carry? I am not sure at this point, there has been a lot of FUD and obfuscation around CCWs and our county. FWIW, I purposely bought a California compliant S&W M&P 9 Shield for that very reason, it is on the roster and I am not doing anything to it, it will be bone stock. Not sure if it is true but I have read about court cases where the citizen with the CCW had modified their pistol and this became a point of contention in their defense. I am staying bone stock, no SSE for this reason. YMMV.

It's a Gen3...GTG! Trigger....might fall into the "modified" catagory. I don't know either.

As I have said before, they authorized my .40/9mm conversion barrel, for whatever I want to use. How that isn't a modification is beyond me.

Just to clarify, the G26 is not an SSE weapon. The 42 is, but this is a Gen 3 and an approved CA gun. Interesting point, I did talk to my friend(who is a long time CCW holder already) and he made an interesting point about modified weapons. I didn't put a lighter trigger in it, just a replacement. My thought process (and his) is that if you had to use your gun to defend your life, you want to guarantee you hit your intended attacker and be as accurate as possible. Of course they would try to say in court that you made your gun "more deadly", but let's hope it never gets to that point. I hope I get my permit and NEVER have to use my gun to defend my life, but if for some awful reason I did, I want to make sure I'm as accurate as comfortable manipulating my weapon as possible.

3-3-14: Called VCSD. Told I do not need to re-submit packet, they will re open my denied packet. Do not need to do livescan a second time.

3-13-14: Received a call from VCSD. I suppose this was my interview. It was essentially, have you had any moving violations or anything else we need to know about since your denial for good cause. Talked briefly about taking the CCW class and making sure that the instructor and I fill out the forms correctly. Told I should receive an approval letter in a month or so.
My updates. Got all f'd up.

3-31-14: Instructed to Livescan again.

6-2-14: Livescan.

End of February went to the Sheriff's Dept to submit an app. Told them I had been denied before, no reason given. Clerk said they would reopen the original if nothing had changed. It hadn't, so I showed the clerk my receipt for the live scan previously done. It had expired, so got an appt for a new scan, got the scan completed, settled in for a long wait. Got the letter today. Did not need a second interview. Booked my training a couple hours ago. Clerks at the SD are awesome to deal with.

I booked my training with LoVerme. My work schedule is erratic to say the least, and he was very flexible in his available instuction times. Price was very good for 3 guns. The range he uses I am very familiar with, so that was another plus. I will let you know how it goes.

36 calendar days from live scan to my check being cashed. Based on what I've heard from others I'm hoping for the call in the next 7-10 days.

I just completed the classroom and range certification today (2 days). I had chosen LoVerme Industries for the certification based on his attitude on the phone and his flexibility in arranging training hours (my work schedule is NOT a normal one). Cost was very competative. I am glad I made the choice I did. Paul is a personable guy, knows his stuff, easy to communicate with. He presented a lot of legal info in a manner that was understandable to someone that didn't have a law degree. He gave numerous examples on how the law applies, and what to expect if you (God forbid) ever have to exercise your right to self defense. Range day was way fun. Paul is one of the best range masters I have associated with, safety is #1. We shot the required drills, then did some others from diferent positions. Much fun.
So now just have to pay the Sheriff the balance of the fees next week.

+10 for Paul Loverme. I did the classroom with him a few weeks ago and qualified with 5 guns today in less than an hour including some fun drills including supine and off-balance. He really knows his stuff and I highly recommend him.

4 of us CGers just did ours with Trigger Burst Training. The simulator is unreal as to giving you real life situations you could end up in. I did a review of the classroom portion in this thread

Talk to Mike as part of your research in choosing a trainer and tell him your looking into him because of the Cal Guns group class he did. He should know that you found him to talk to because of a recommendation from Cal Guns. He might be more apt to do more things for us Calgunners if he knows he is getting calls and ultimately more business (if you decide to use him) from us Cal Guns people.

While I'm still waiting for the list of instructors to be updated and my name added, I have to say that I've been in communication with Mike and will end up using him when I finally get around to applying for my LTC since, an instructor can't certify him/herself.

SOLID!!

So. You just had your interview on the 5-23-14, correct? That's one hell-of-a turnaround!! Wonder why so ridiculously fast?
