LOST AR-15, please help!!!
So, yesterday me and some friends were out in the middle of damn near nowhere. and we were shooting our guns at some hill. anyways, we had a couple of ARs and some other rifles and what not. but, i thought i had put my rifle in the case and when i got home i realized that we left it there, nobody took it because everyone opened up their cases and it wasnt there. what will the police do when i report it? will they just have me fill out some form or whatever and just leave it at that? please dont overload this thread with hateful, "youre such a retard for losing your gun, people like that shouldnt be allowed to have a gun" im very responsible with it and we were in a hurry to get home because my friend had to do whatever, idk.

+1000. If the place is that remote the chances might have been that it was still there if you turned around immediately and went back for it. Even at that, were it my rifle, I'd go back and check the area.

Where was the exact location that you left it? J/K
I have to admit when I first read the title of this thread and the face that it was in the LEO forum I laughed in disbelief. Anyway, as others have said, I would get back in my car and go back for it. If it's somewhere out in the desert, chances are it's still there. |

Like others have suggested. The best idea would be for you to drive back and find it. Don't expect to file a police report and have THEM go look for it. It would be irresponsible to think that way.
Good luck with your rifle. I hope you find it right away.

I think you are too late to go back and find it. This was just sent in from the area.
Seriously: You really need to go back there ASAP!

People forget things. Guns aren't an exception. Get your butt back there right NOW!!
Where had you set it that it would be out of view? Most people I shoot with usually do a once-over of the area to make sure there's nothing left behind. No trash, no brass, no rounds and definitely no guns! |

Were you drunk? Whatever the case, get back there now and find it!
Losing a firearm is totally unacceptable and there is NO excuse for it. If you are in the military and have an ID or lose your weapon, you will be banished. Last edited by Lrchops; 02-22-2011 at 8:57 AM.. |

It's not "lost" yet. It will only be truly lost after you return to where you left it and can't find it after a day of searching...
Even then you should go to the nearest Sheriff's office to where you left it to see if someone turned it in. If they don't have it you can make the report there, as it is then truly lost. Be sure to have it's description and serial number with you for the report if needed.

When you say in the middle of nowhere are we talking BLM land or California State parks? The reason i ask, is b/c if it's on BLM land you might want to notify the rangers that your AR15 is " lost". As they routinely drive through areas, and check out shooting spots that people use. And they would most likely be the first people/agency to stumble across it. Then file a report with the Sheriff's Department in that area if all else fails.

BTW, when its all said and done, let everybody know what happens... Just in case this ever happens again..................... I mean, I'm sure this isn't the first time this has.... wait, it probably is.
Good Luck!

UPDATE:
after a whole f*cking day of searching, I FINALLY found it, it was reallt windy that day, so dirt had blown over it and pretty much buried it. we went to the general area and looked for the brass. and saw a small part of the butt stock sticking out. got her all cleaned up and now its in my closet (: |
