Default Range Shooting

Do you guys wear tactical equipment (chest rig, holsters, camo) while at private ranges? Was thinking of doing some training at Burro but some of my friends thought it would be ridiculous to gear'd up. I thought it might help to stimulate specific situations, but what do you guys think?

Depends what your doing.

Informal shooting?

training for SHTF.

You spent money on gear the gear.
Might as well find out if it works.

And what It really feels like to move in such gear.
Yes you will get some funny looks.

Do it

And

I dont.

Training mostly for both SHTF and just sharpen skill sets and transitions.

I do not own any tactical gear, so my range attire is usually boots, jeans, shirt, gloves, and ball cap. Which is what I'll likely be wearing if I ever have to defend my family or home.

That being said, here's my opinion.

If you spent money on specific gear that you intend to use for SHTF purposes, at some point you need to train with it on. Period.

What use is any gear at all if you can't function fluidly in it? You need to be familiar with pockets, their location and how they open/close as well as what your range of motion is in your gear.

Will people look at you? Yeah, I'd say definitely. Does the opinion of those people really matter? Ultimately that depends on you.

I know one thing, I don't like to throw my money away, so I make sure to choose my purchases wisely after considerable research, and then I use them.

Last time I was at Burro I was walking around with my thigh rig.

Did it feel weird? Sure, at first it did but then I didn't care. Funny thing was it actually started to feel comfortable.

I say do what you are willing to put up with. No point in spending money on gear you will never use.

do it. i don't judge anyone for doing that cause for all i know you could be practicing for a upcoming class you have and i know they require you bring gear to use. i know for next time i get up there with a private range, i'm bringing my holster for my pistol and going to practice drawing and rifle transitions.

i mean just don't go overboard and start doing tactical rolls or something... :P

Go wear them. "Train like you fight. Fight like you train".

If you're moving and shooting, bounding and flanking, by all means wear the gear. I doubt you guys shoot of the bench and chairs all geared up. That would look funny.

I think you should take me along, then I could decide weather or not you should wear the tactical gear.
(Seriously, invite me!)

All I have is a holster, but if I did have a proper chest rig I'd definitely load it up and strap it on at a private range.

What better way/place to learn what/how it works than at a private range?
