I've been working on this build for a little over a year:
LRB M25 22" Kreiger NM barrel SAI M25, M21, M1A adjustable trigger group Unitized Gas System Nikon Laser IRT 4-12x42 Obviously a JAE-100 G2 I haven't given it a chance to show what it's capable of yet. Need to come down out of the hills and see what a 600 yards range feels like. Sorry the picture doesn't match the standard set by ya'll that have taken the time to "set the stage".

He doesn't do custom work on USGI stocks anymore. He's trying to come out with his own stocks, which is cool, but I think they're going to be pricey. I just need my stock cut down to a 12" LOP and have a cheek rest installed. I MAY try to do it myself, as I did received some instructions from a member over at TFL. We'll see.

But if you're packing 4 or 5 mags, why not paint one in camo to see how it looks, i would love to see that desert M1 with a desert magazine just to see how it looks. the rifle still looks amazing and the camo works really good IMO.

palakaboy; is that your signature on the lower right of the stock? If it is, that's pretty cool - blends right in,

Final iteration of my rifle.
Got rid of the ARMS 18 mount, went with Sadlak steel mount. Got new rings, and a new scope. Today's through the scope pic. In the end I now have a Aimpoint in a Laure RAS II mount, a set of Badger rings, and an ARMS18 mount sitting in the drawer. I'm finally happy with it. |

What didn't you like about the ARMS #18? I have one I've never mounted to my M1A... just never got around to it.

It seems my receiver isn't in spec as with many other Springfields. Thus I ran into elevation problems while trying to sight in a Leupold Mark 4. I tried it all, raising and lowering the button screw, filing the angle face to shorten the length of the mount since the receiver was riding up into the stripper clip guide, shimming the rings and it all ended without success. Finally fed up, I ordered a Sadlak. With the mount sitting higher, I ordered new rings and a new scope as well. Everything sighted in A-OK, after a very frusterating experience with the ARMS mount. |

Interesting; I've heard similar anecdotal tales. Now were the problems obvious when static mounting or did they only become evident after a range session?
I have a spare Leupy 1st Gen 4-14x44 tactical and a set of ARMS QD rings, sitting around, I wonder if this setup would show up any problems?

Hey Chris,
It is definitely dependent on your specific firearm. Bambam-31 and Electric Factory here on CGN run the same setup, ARMS18 with ARMS #22 QD rings on a Super Sniper scope. Theirs are A-Ok. You can order an inspection kit from Sadlak. Dee would be the one to ask for, she usually handles the orders. The inspection kit would let you know if your rifle is in spec of not. My problems with the ARMS were quite lengthy. 1) The mount canted to the right when I initially mounted it. A few people ran into the problem, as I torqued the side bolt it pushed the front of the mount to the right as it was tightening. The solution to this was to tighten the clip guide key before screwing the sidebolt. Only problem with that was that you would risk not getting full contact to the receiver. 2) The longer mount also rode up on the stripper clip guide. The solution was to file the angled face to level the mount. 3)The button screw didn't really help much in my case. It's not nearly as well designed as the Sadlak's version to level the mount. It was frusterating to try and correct my elevation problems with the button screw. My ARMS initially ran into windage problems because of the canted mount. After that was resolved, I ran into elevation problems as well. So, I finally ditched it after a handful of range trips. I had the opportunity to have Mike Sadlak go through the whole mounting process with me, and he gave me some great pointers while installing the Sadlak mount. The M-14 forum has many, many threads on the topic. Definitely stop by and browse through, I know a few of those threads there were mine as well. |
