Default The best 1911 grip safety fit I have seen

Check out this thread, I had to do a double take since the grip safety looks like it's just part of the frame. Man, we have some real talented hands out there.

That's what it's supposed to look like. Much better than having Bubba bugger up an expensive pistol while working off the tailgate of his pickup truck. Quality craftsmanship does not draw attention to itself.

Jeremy charges upwards of $350 to solder two blocks onto the frame tangs and fit a grip safety. If I'm not mistaken, he uses a Baer grip safety.

Yup, that is how the grip safety is supposed to be fitted...but that one is nice.

I'm more impressed by how he rounded the toe of the frame on the Wilson and than flared the magwell in. Much nicer...and a lot more work...the even a blended-in S&A, that extends the grip

Sorry to be picky, but his grip screws are not aligned. It's the attention to final details that makes a custom gun shine.

That's functional art, right there. I would have bet money that was Chuck Rogers' work, but the golfballing affected that.

That's why they should use hex screws

In the link, it says the texturing was farmed out to Rogers

If you've built a 1911 as fine as the example above, especially with details such as the beavertail fit and bob'ed frame, with aligned grip screws, I'd love to see it. Not a gun someone else built, but one you built.

I must say I was scratching my head wondering what the OP was talking about. I mean, I have a 1911, but I never really look that closely at it. Now that I realize what he meant (because someone on the other forum pointed it out) ... Wow. I get it now, very impressive!

Personally, I'm more of a "function vs aesthetics" guy and I'm guessing it functions pretty nicely, but it's not something I'd pay extra for personally. VERY nice work. I wish people in all professions took such pride in their work. (which reminds me, I better get back to work)

There was a time when that was considered the correct way to fit a beavertail grip safety to function properly.

As handwork became more expensive, looser fits became more common...and since price drove the market and most folks weren't exposed to how it should be fitted, it became the norm.

During a 5-day 1911-centric class (1200 rounds) I saw a lot of folks pay the price, in pain and blood, for a poorly fitted grip safety...usually by the 2nd day

I think OP means the beavertail to frame fit is excellent.
It took me a while to figure out. LOL

I think that falls under the category of: "if you're building a full custom, you might as well get all the details right"
