My guy I could tell was worried about losing his FFL or getting in trouble. He was freaking out. We didnt get through to the DOJ when I was at the store, so he told me he would hold it until he got a call back. He called me right as they were closing and I picked it up the next day.

I wasn't too annoyed, because not too many people know that an 18 year old can legally own a handgun, they just assume since you have to be 21 to buy one, you would have to be 21 to own and get a HSC.

Well I turned 21 last Saturday.

I put a deposit down on parked SA GI earlier this month but I haven't had chance to DROS it yet since my b-day. I should be able to do it tomorrow and start the longest 10 days of my life.

ETA:
Meanwhile, here is one of the birthday gifts to myself

I will be 21 in 78 days...

Already eyeing my P226R in .40 with nightsights and TLR-2 with anticipation.

I have 2 handguns to play with including a 1911, but I want my 226!

Also looking forward to buying my stripped lower.

now i just gave my mother the money and she bought a SA MC Operator for me we both took the HSC certificate test. but the dealer i went to said i couldnt be issued the certificate cause i wasn't 21 even after reading all that i could get it and transfer it to my name from her. does anyone know where i can get a number to call to confirm this is true or not i know you guys have had it happen to you and it is possible but i just wana make it's concrete to these guys when we go to pick the gun up so i can just show them that i can and that it is possible for me to get a HSC take the test again and get the certificate. if they still wont let me then i can always go else where to get the HSC.

I will be 21 in 9 more days!!
I have a sig p6 on layaway right now, can't wait to DROS it.
The only thing I'm worried about is the handgun safety demonstration. How the hell am I supposed to do it if I'm not even familiar with handguns, do they teach you first?

I'm not sure how they do it, but I'd suggest watching videos on youtube or trying to find a tutorial online so you can at least see the basics. If you know basically how they work, it's pretty easy to figure them all out.

Same crap as the rifle dude. Don't point at head, clear the magazine before clearing the slide, etc. It is just a mini rifle.

If you want, I will bring down my BHP and Tracker for you to look at. I will be down there in the next few days after doing the DROS for my Saigas

Basically any gun shop sells them. Call the DOJ to get this clown in order. Number is on their website.

If you're under 21, you can still own a handgun by having a parent buy it and transfer it to you.

That's old news trykp.

This thread is dedicated to your first actual purchase. Have you decided what you want to purchase when you turn 21 yet?

I know, just some people don't know

I'm still undecided between a Sig p226 .40sw and a Springfield (1911) Operator. I've always liked the sig, but when I saw the operator I couldn't resist. Checked the DOJ approved handguns list though, and it seems like the operator isn't CA legal . Maybe i can find something similar.

Congrats

I used to have an SP2009. I didnt really like it too much at the time but now I kinda regret selling it. It grew on me after I sold it. Thats life, I guess

OP: I have that exact same pistol in stainless steel. I like everything about it but GI Sights suck. I am having Novaks put on it. You may want to spend a couple of hundred more and get something with better sights, stock, if you want to use it for target shooting.

Oh, and since it's GI, you will have to either restake the front sight or have a dovetail milled.

I'm in the same position, going to be 21 in a few months. I've decided that my first handgun is going to be a Ruger SR9.

Yes, it's true. If your parent or grandparent or spouse is also a California resident then they can transfer a handgun that they own to you if you are at least 18 years of age. You need to have an HSC first, and then send in the Intra-familial/Op-Law form to CalDOJ along with $19 to register the handgun in your name.

I just thought I'd add to this thread seeing as I'll be 21 in less than a month now. I'm planning on getting a GLOCK 27. I got to shoot and fondle one the other day after deciding that it was the gun I wanted and it felt great!

Its a bit late for buying a different model instead since I've owned the GI for about 7 months now. My initial plan was to have the GI upgraded... more or less make into a SA Loaded. But as time went on, I just convinced myself to buy a Loaded. Thats the plan now, but I dont suspect I'll get to that in awhile. I've got other expen$ive things on my plate.
