Valegian-You are the 'inside-guy' in all of this. Too bad the wife & I were at Target Masters too late to swing by Walmart tonight. Will have to go there on Monday. Hopefully they still have a few boxes by then.

Thanks again to all!

Just went to the simi valley WM where they had 3 boxes of Federal 100rd .45 left so I bought them all. Opened a box and surprisingly the rounds had large primers. What does this mean? I know the champion line is supposed to come with small ones. Someone on the 1911forum says he suspects these are repackaged American Eagle rounds after a recall inspection.

Forgive my ignorance, but does the large primer thing imply that by being the repackage American eagle rounds they should be more expensive/higher quality than what they are being marketed as?

Not really. I'm saving up brass for a future reloading project and this just makes it easier on me/some others.

I have older FED bulk boxes of .45 ACP and they are GTG in terms of shooting but they have small primers, so when I get into reloading I'll have to sort them out... Kind of a small hassle...

Small vs large primers just makes it easier for folks to sort and load the cases during the reloading process. No affect on our Boom time. (if that makes any sense...)l

Now go buy some!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't have any AE 45 rounds to compare but apparently the guys on 1911forums have and noticed that the brass coloration and everything on these look identical to their AE rounds compared to their older previous Champion small primed stuff. Some have even pulled the bullets to compare and confirmed they are jacketed and not plated. I also noticed on the Federal site it says the Champion muzzle velocity is 830 whereas the AE stuff is 890....on my $29.97 100rd box it says 890 as the MZ so I think it's definitely a reasonable possibility these are repackaged AE rounds.

Plenty of .45 $29.97 available to enjoy. Good luck to all. Also saw 9mm mega packs and Winchester 100 packs of 9mm but no .223 $6.97 AE. No federal .22 550-packs but did see .22 555-pack of Winchester.

When was the last time you guys saw the Federal 100rd 9mm's in stock? The guy working the sporting goods department at the WM here said not "for months."

Was at the Milpitas WM today at 12:30. Did not see any 100rd Fed boxes of 9mm or .40. There were about half-a-dozen or so boxes of the .45 100rd boxes. Bought one.

Last time I saw the 9mm 100rd Fed box was last month when I was visiting family in Manteca and snuck into the WM there. Maybe they're gone for good? I don't know; all I do know is I buy when I see a good deal and store it for a rainy day.

Alright so since Federal 100rd 9mm packs are all but impossible to get ahold of, what's the next best deal for factory brass range ammo? Ordering online will be hard for me since I live within LA city limits.

strange, I've been monitoring the fairfield and vacaville WM for about 3 weeks now and every time I go, they are completely dry on 9 and 45. The only thing I usually find is tulammo, and I dont run that through my babies.

I was at my local Wally World today in the IE...bought up all the Fed Bulk packs of 9mm (Only 3 boxes)..seams every time I see it there..there's always only 3 boxes left. BTW...saw Fed Bulk packs of .45s there too...think 3 boxes left. $29.97/box

They also have Winchester Bulk pack 9mm for $22.97 or $23.97...can't remember, I prefer the Federals

They must have just restocked...the case seamed pretty full...the only thing missing was Tula .223s

I wonder if the $29.97 price is only temporary? If they are in fact repackaged inspected American Eagle rounds then I'm wondering if maybe they just priced it at $29.97 to quickly move all the returned ammo before going back to the usual stuff?

Most places don’t accept returns on ammo, either does Walmart…

I’m pretty sure these are factory new rounds.

Plus I have been coming across the 9mm value packs for over a year…

The .45 ACP stuff is new to me, haven’t seen seeing that stuff until the past month or two.

I think they meant that there was an ammo recall and once the majority of the affected rounds were inspected and cleared, they repackaged them and are selling them cheap.

It’s possible, to be honest I have no idea why the value pack availability is the way it is… but that could very well be a reason for it. I would prefer it if it was a regular item and that’s its regular price.

It’s almost like shopping for a mythical beast since everyone knows it exists but it’s never really in stock.

I would still buy with confidence if you see it… I have gone thought about 2000 rounds of value pack ammo out of the 5k rounds I purchased and no issues in any of the pistols I have.

I called my local WM last night and the guy told me they had the cheap 9mm Federal stuff in stock, so I hopped on the bike and hauled *** into town. When I got there all they had were the 50 round boxes for $12.97 so I guess he misunderstood what I was looking for. I ended up buying a box of the WWB 147g hollow points to try them out. They were $22 after tax for 50 of 'em so it's worth a shot just to see how they do.

Any of you tri-valley shooters may want to check out J&R in Livermore. They have 1000 round .45 for $399, 9mm at $279 and .40 for $359. Not sure what brand though. But might be worthwhile if it's better than the Federal ( not dirty?). Might be on par with Winchester? Don't know. I'll be over that way tomorrow and I might check it out.
