Default Thinking about a Southern Grind Machete

Anyone have one of these? Pricey, but I don't need one. I just like cool stuff. I'm interested in some of the downsides if any.

That is a nice looking machete but the price is so over the top it is ridiculous. Every machete I've had over the years has been used like a machete was designed to be uses. They get beat up. I couldn't see spending that kind of money for a bush wacker.

That's about $175.00 more expensive than the best machetes on the planet...

only downside is it isn't a $5 chicom special. If you want it, buy it!

That's a lot of money for a machete.
Even a nice looking one.

My tactic:
Buy crappy machete
sharpen the crap out of it
place in salt water for a week
neutralize the rust
NOT even Rick of walking dead effs with it

Nice piece, reminds me of Fiddleback Forge (but they never seem to have them in stock).

Looks cool. Not my cup of tea but if I wanted a machete I'd go for it. IMO a little short for a machete.

You know you buy too many nice knives when you see a price tag like that and your first thought is, "wow, that's about 300 less than the last 10" knife I thought about"

I spent yesterday texting back and forth with the knife maker that has made me a knife and a sword and is doing a pair of knives for me right now. It wasn't until late at night that he realized I slipped another order in for a carry knife. we're driving home, my family, and my youngest daughter who has no knowledge but apparently knows me, starts in. We were talking money, my wife needs a new (new used) car and I was saying we could handle the payment not a problem etc. daughter says yeah, like how you have money for guns mom doesn't know about. I said "I don't do that!" She says, how about all the knives.....crickets.....

Kids

Buy the machete, chop things. Build unnecessary improvised shelters, trim your hedges like a man. Have fun.

[exaggerated analogy]

Spending a lot of money on a machete is like putting a Ferrari in a demolition derby.

[/exaggerated analogy]

The machete the US military uses is very good. When I was in the Army we used it to chop down 6" diameter trees.

I’ve had a Top’s 230 machete for a couple years, holds an edge really well, American made, and is coated to prevent rust. It is razor sharp and slices through almost inch thick branches with 1 hit. It sells for about $93 on dlttrading right now and about $140 everywhere else.

If money is not an object, go for it. Especially if it's gonna be a wall hanger.

If you're gonna use it, I'd get a couple of lesser expensive (but still quality) ones because it'd be a shame to damage one of those.
