"normal 10/22" picture thread
OK enough tactical bull****.
Back to the basics Just redid the stock today because the old finish was scratched up in some spots from rubbing on another rifle while off-roading Let me know what you think

First off... im not picking on you, so dont take this the wrong way.
Next time, use Sanding sealer first before the stain, this will keep the stain consistant... rather than the "rustic" look as previously mentioned apply several coats, but let it dry comepletely (overnight) then sand lightly with brillo or some 300 grit in between, keeps the fuzz off. when your all done, clear coat... i would recommend using a polyurethane... only down side to polyurethane is the ripples you get in the finish, but if you let it dry and sand them out in between coats, you can get a smooth finish that wont scratch.... i can drag a knife blade accross some of the stocks ive refinished, wont scratch. I refinished a 10/22 for a buddy of mine.. he got it from his dad, they found it in the garage all rusted up.. i sanded and re-blued it all and refinished the stock for him, turned out looking new. otherwise... i kinda dig the grainy look, i dont know if you were shooting for it, but I actually like it... just think it needs a clear coat and a light sand to remove the fuzz. thats "what i think" anyways (im a finish carpenter btw.... )

This is my most normal looking 10/22. Techsights TS100's, Volquartsen Target Hammer, Christies autobolt release, TI bolt buffer, TI jumbo cocking handle (not on there anymore) |

Nope, the barrel is the standard ruger barrel, I just knocked out the front and rear sights and installed the TS100's.

OP, did you apply a finish, to me it just looks like you sanded her and left it bare.
I kept my rear sight in... but after thinking about it, that rear sight is putting tension on the barrel. I bet knocking out the sights adds an immeasurable amount of accuracy to the gun. |

I could have put up a pic of mine but I already took it all apart for next weekends face lift. Mine was just the plain old strip down (cheapest) 10/22.
All I did to it was add a rail, scope rings and a 3-9 scope and hand block sanded the end of the buttstock flat, so I could (and did) add a normal butt plate pad, instead of that cheesy plastic POS that Ruger insists on using on the cheap model. I'm giving mine a stainless bull barrel and laminte thumbhole stock, with nicer (weaver) rail and rings and nicer scope because I got tired of feeling like I was shooting a Red Ryder. Will probablly add a muzzle brake if I can find one that uses a recessed set screw/screws. If I had a lathe, I'd make my own. I do like the sporter model though. I should have bought that one in the first place. I have a hard time keeping anything I buy stock. Cars, trucks, bikes, guns, they all get modded at some point. |

my "apparently normal" 10/22
Here's my normal-looking 10/22. Other than the tech-sites and that red trigger, it looks stock. Internals are all KIDD, though. I started with a 7/14 oz job, but that was a little too light for a walking-about gun, so I increased the second stage to about 1.5#. It's a dream to shoot. Nowhere near the precision of my heavy-barreled bench 10/22, but then again, this one doesn't whine when I feed it bulk pack ammo.
