Default Big 'ol box of .308

Not a whole lot compared to some of you guys, especially the semi-auto crowd, but I don't have to reload too much as I single feed slow fire - more recent targets being a 3" spinning pistol target @ 600y and a 6" @ 700y.

Being that my .308 recipe is all dialed in and I want to work on my new r700 6.5 recipe more I decided to use up the rest of my processed .308 brass. Every round is 44.82-44.88gr of varget (digitally scaled each one) seated to 2.866"

Range box

+ On-deck backup

+ Storage

About 14 layers. Was going to put them in one of my plastic bulk ammo boxes but you kinda gotta just pile them in there and they jostle around, this box is under 1/16" wider than the rounds and they dont move too much.

Sweet little storage box.

I'm in the process of going bolt only for 308. Just love churning out the favourite load and dropping into the box

Ok I feel like I have been slacking off. Time to break out the dies again. My 308 ammo box is so sad in comparison.

Very nice though, love the paint job too!

Not often you can get away with saying another man put you in the mood . But he sparked a flame in both of us..

Very nice box, if you alternate the direction on the rounds they will lay even smoother.

Thanks,

The reason I ask is because I have a very similar load... but I am still playing with charge weights and COAL to fine tune.

I started with a COAL of 2.830”

I measured my max mag length at 2.900” (AICS mag) but they recommend the max COAL at 2.880 for that mag.

It’s just a rough measurement but it looks like the bullet contacts the lands at 2.988” in my rifle which is a R700 with a factory chamber.

Yeah, benefits of a savage I guess - not the mile jump to the landings. So you did the muzzle down measure of the seated to landing oal?
Even if I could I wouldn't seat to 2.988, almost no meat on the neck. Better off just seating lower like you are

Since I don’t have any tools like the Hornady overall length gauge my rough measurement for my lands was done with a spent case that had some resistance when holding a bullet and closed the bolt on it… I carefully extracted it and marked it with a sharpie and repeated the test a few times. The results look ballpark accurate but repeatable.

I am going to start another set of test loads seating to max mag length 2.900”. If there is a issue clearing the feed ramp like BenHa mentioned or issues feeding ill keep seating it down until its reliable.

Might need to add a small amount to powder to match ur previous case pressure if it was a load you liked

Copy that... my last load was 44.5gr Varget @ 2.830”

I’m already into my last 1lb jug of Varget so I’m going to have to start this new load from scratch since I am switching to H4895 due to availability.

thats ammo porn right there. my favorite load is 46g of RL-15 over a 168gSMK
0.44 MOA at 100yrds out of my savage 10 COL 2.8
its hot but its hard to argue when i have good accuracy and no pressure signs
