Default Tokerev 7.62 x25 to 9mm

I've got a Romanian Tokerev and recently picked up a 9mm barrel and bushing. (Barrel had a slightly larger OD so I found a bushing to match)
My problem is I'm getting stovepipes and failure to feed.
I think it is short stroking from the recoil spring being too stiff.
I've got a new Wolf spring for it. Will shortening the spring reduce spring tension? IE less preload.
Suggestions please.

Thanks dan

Are you using the 762 Tokarev mags? I believe they are a little big for the 9mm round, and that maybe causing your issues.

Norinco makes a magazine that will fit the 9mm. It's essentially a 762 magazine with a spacer in the rear of the magazine. The spacer pushes the 9mm round forward so it fits snug in the magazine.

Ebay has them for sale but they are pricey. Search for norinco 213 "wide" magazine or 9mm Tokarev magazine and you can see what they look like .

I've read where other have slapped the rounds to the front of the 7.62 mag and it works fine
What I'm seeing I think is the slide short stroking and not picking up the next round as well as grabbin the ejected round rebounding forward
That's why I'm asking about the recoil spring tension
Thanks
Using Federal 124g rounds

Shortening a spring reduces the preload but increases the spring rate.
What you need is a spring wound to a lower rate.
That's done by changing the number of coils or using thinner wire.
Shortening the spring seems logical, but it's actually going the wrong way because you don't have a problem with preload.
You have a problem with rate.

Thanks Randall,thanks 97awd
I think you guys have me headed in the right direction.
Reminded me of when working in a motorcycle shop with discussions of spring rates - preload in track bike setup.
Looks like I'll be taking that spring to the hardware store to find a substitute with a softer rate.
Thanks again
Dan

when I converted my Norinco Tokarev to 9mm it also use to short stroke / stove pipe but not everytime

then after it got broken in with the new barrel and the recoil spring got more use, it never has a problem

the recoil spring for a 7.62 TOK is probably a little heavier than it needs to be for 9mm but it's close enough and usually works fine
