Default Mosin Bolt Reassembly

Hey all,

I'm having issues putting my bolt back together to get the firing pin to stick through the hole. Does anyone know the firing pin length? I'm starting to think it was cut and that I'm fighting a losing battle.

For firing pin length, don't you have a Mosin tool? It's that funny looking tool with the loop and notches that usually comes in the ammo pouches with your Mosin. One of those notches is the correct firing pin protrusion length, it's been quite a while for me but it should be between .075" and .095". in length.

No I have to buy a multi tool! I have been using flatheads up until this point, but I can't get the pin itself to protrude.

Are you decocking the bolt? You need to twist the bolt head, connector & cocking piece 90 degrees to the left when looking from the rear.

Yeah I watched a video on it, is it possible that when I'm getting it to line up with the back end of the bolt I have it to far up? It shouldn't be recessed though right? The only time the pin gets through the hole is when it's about 2 cms recessed into the hole.

I measured from the upper flat to the tip as shown here, it came to 2.160".

Yeah that's why it was apart I was getting the cosmoline off it. Now all I need to do is check the firing pin and head space on it.

Do you have head space gages? It's nigh on impossible to check head space without them. Do you actually know what head space is? Not trying to be a smarta**, just wondering if you know.

I don't have gauges but there's a gunsmith that will check the head space and verify it's not gonna blow up in my face for $10 bucks.
And yeah it's space from the chamber to the bolt face.
