Default In praise of the CZ75 40

I have two (2) identical CZ75B 40 S&Ws, and just thought I would post my impressions after putting about 500 rounds through each of them.

Had a trigger job done to them by West Coast Gunworks and the difference was remarkable. I will shortly post the poundage after the work.

I also replaced the stock sights with the Meprolight Tritium sight. I don't know why CZ does not make this standard as it really is much better.

This adds maybe $175 to the price of the gun. However, I defy you to find another quality all-steel semi-auto as inexpensive as the CZ75B, so you are starting at a low price base and ending up with a heck of a good pistol.

Two noteworthy traits of these guns: accuracy and reliability. Neither gun has ever had the slightest malfunction. Both always lock back after the last round, and neither has ever had a FTF, stovepipe, or anything like that. I mainly shoot range ammo sold by FT3 tactical although I put a box or two of Federal through each of them too. The design of this gun seems to be hyper-reliable.

Accuracy is great. These guns will shoot as accurately as the shooter allows. I do not own a pistol rest such as a Ransom, but at ten yards I can mostly hit the Bull's Eye or near it most of the time. The Range Officer at FT3 came up to me and asked what I was shooting last Sunday when he saw my ten yard groups. All flyers were strictly due to the shooter (me). I'm not saying that this gun will equal say, a Wilson Combat 1911, but it will shoot very accurately.

Lastly, disassembly and reassembly. The easiest of any semi-auto I own.

One downside: detail stripping a CZ is *much* more difficult than with a 1911 and is not for the faint of heart. Generally it is considered not necessary by CZ aficionados over at the CZ forum.

Anyway, these are my impressions after owning these guys for awhile.

Such a sexy looking pistol. I love the look of wood grips on a steel gun.

I own a P-01 in 9mm and just can't say enough good things about it

Very nice gun indeed. Curious to know why/how you picked the .40 S&W variant over the 9mm variant (original design). Is it simply caliber preference?

Yes. I like the notion of the extra punch, plus 40 is not wildly more expensive than 9. More importantly though, for some reason or other I just seem to shoot 40 well. I am similarly accurate with my Ruger SR40c. So yes, I prefer 40 over 9 for most things. Nothing against 9; I went with 9 for my Shield (carry gun) and I enjoy shooting the Beretta 92fs in 9mm.

Besides the obvious (lighter, smoother, personal preference), what is the purpose of a trigger job for the CZs? I ask, because I see a lot of CZ owners posting that they got theirs done. Makes me wonder if there are deficiencies in the stock trigger that I am not noticing or maybe I'm not knowing what to look for.

I have several CZs and I wanted a lighter trigger pull. I also have some that I use right out of the box. Either way it's one of the best on the market.

Another way too look at it is that some things that are already "good" can still be improved.

I envy those that are completely satisfied with a factory stock CZ. They save allot of money.

CZ trigger jobs are generally about reducing or removing the SA creep. Smoothing out the DA and reducing the trigger over-travle and pre-travel. As well as finding the right sights, grips and other controls. These things mean more too some shooters than others. Their value may also depend on what kind of shooting a person dose.

A question that i am still working on is, how many shooters can actually take advantage of some of the available mods.

Default Love it

I Just picked up my CZ 97B today, so I won't be able to dros it for a month. But a few days ago I checked with my local gun shop and they were able to locate a CZ 75B in 40 cal, so I put it on order. Looking forward to adding that to my collection. Yours looks really nice with those grips. Gorgeous gun.

Off roster CZ SP-01 in 40 shoots like most steel/alloy guns in 9mm. The lower slide/barrel axis increases accuracy and decreases recoil in the all steel gun. Install the CGW kit and you get a very responsive semi-auto. Some G10 grips top off a very controllable handgun.

Haven't shot my P-06 in awhile. I did smooth out the trigger and installed the CGW skeletonized 1911 style carry hammer and newer thin 85C trigger and set the oveetravel adjustment. Still needs the T2 disco to remove the slack in SA. I modified the lifter arm for a short reset. 13# HS It is wider than the P-01 slide, about the same thickness as the Glock 30. In fact I'm using a IWB hoster for the G30. It's a soft shooting compact 40.

DA pull

SA pull

Yes. And not bad, either. But I like wood for pretty much all of my handguns.

Here is the product link on Amazon.com for anyone interested. My review is the first one -- "helpful" clicks gratefully appreciated. http://www.amazon.com/Hogue-CZ-75-CZ...ilpage_o08_s00

For some weird reason, I am on the same boat - shooting better groups with 40s.

CZ 75 look is starting to really grow on me. I will have a tough decision to make between the 75B and 75D PCR in the near future.

Do any of the wood grips come contoured like the rubber grips of the SP01?

If there is a wood grip that has some palm swell, it would be made by Nils.
