Default BLR in 308 thoughts?

A little late as i already PPT the darn thing. But.. Thoughts or concerns about a nice Belgium BLR? 308 cal more of a shooter than a safe queen. More of a impulse buy really. The thought of a 308 lever is pretty cool. Not for the zombies, as the AR10 is better suited for multi targets.
Butter smooth action for sure. Decent trigger much better than i expected.

Question is?
If you own one, what weight did it like? I have, 147, 150, 168, 170, 180 weights.
I have a bunch of ball ammo, will this work?
Thinking of casting for this as well. Anyone else cast for 308?
She is still in jail.

Great gun. I sold mine off a number of years ago. Mine preferred the 168gr bthp and the Remington 125gr managed recoil ammo. YMMV.

Good shooting,

Wish I had bought one years ago. Great hunting rifle.

Don’t own one but wouldn’t mind having one in 7mm-08.

Here is mine! I love it! got the take down model with 16" threaded barrel in .308.

Its technically called the black label. I have only shot 150gr ball through it and it seems to like it just fine at 100 yards.

I bought a Japanese made BLR in 308 back in the late 80s---steel frame, non-takedown, standard rifle with open sights---mounted a Leupold 1.5-5X scope in the then-new Warne lever-QD rings---too nicely finished for a hunting rifle with really nice wood and polished blued---love this rifle---I'm right-handed, but must shoot left-handed because my left eye is so much better than my right---no issues with that as the rifle is fully ambi. My friend had a Belgium made BLR in 308 that was a bit different than the later Model 81 Japanese rifle---but it got stolen---not many gun safes back then!
The rifle seemed reasonable accurate with several commercial factory ammos shooting into 1 1/2" to 2" groups with everything from 150 to 165 grain bullets---if I remember right, it seemed to prefer Federal brand ammo, but most any factory ammo was accurate enough for hunting and I never went thru a great effort to find the very most accurate ammo. A friend used to know a rancher/farmer up Paso Robles way and in those days would invite him and friends up to shoot wild pigs on his huge property---the owner would throw a party for several days to try and kill-off many of the boars as possible and would drive into his fields on a mini-tractor to pick-up the animals that were shot and have the meat processed by a local guy---then would send us packing with a large package of meat and sausage---super nice guy who sadly passed-away many years ago and his son was afraid to allow hunting on his land due to liability---I was managing a gun store in those days and was able to buy a large amount of Winchester 308 150 grain soft-point ammo so that's what we mostly used---those were the days!
Good luck with your new BLR!

OP, I'm in a similar mind, would love to have a BLR in .308 or .223 to keep common calibers. I would actually prefer to have one in .243, .270, or even .25-06, but I read that it's not practical to re-barrel the BLR's, so the hotter cartridges went bye bye on my list.

30-06. You'll want to develop a load for it, and 30-06 is very flexible for that and very available everywhere.

Forgot to say, get the takedown. Much better for travel

Nice find!!! I have always wanted a BLR in .358 Winchester. I probably shouldn't wait to long, it's getting harder to find a good one.

Almost unobtanium. Pretty costly to say the least. Never know if another BLR comes up for sale with spare mags .

Reload. Easy peasy. Tapered expander in a lubed 308 Win. case. One pass and you have 358 Win. I do it all the time.

.358 rifle bullets are made by all of the major manufacturers. Lots of loading data out there. 358 Win. is a HAMMER.

I have yet to test non lead loads for hunting since in 2019, we have to use non lead for all hunting. Leaning toward the Barnes 180 TTSX.

Wow. Great info!!
I stockpiled some wc844, amd blc2. Figured it would work for most .30. Seems 358 as well.

Regarding magazines for BLR---only mags for the early Belgium made rifles are hard to come by---I don't understand why Browning won't make a run of mags to fit the Belgium made rifles---they would sell every one they made...!

Has anyone modified a mag to hold more rounds (308)?

I had one in .308 and they are undeniably cool guns. But my experience was that it wasn’t as accurate as any average bolt action rifle. But for a woods rifle, perfectly fine 1.5-2 MOA
