Default Fingerprinting for Utah CCW - Where To Get It Done?

Where are you guys getting your finger-printing done for the Utah concealed carry permit? Utah doesn't use live-scan, they do it the old school way with ink prints on paper.

where are you located?

UPS Stores do it, local PD/SO might do it, security.background check companies do it.

Some states require the police to perform the fingerprinting. Call around the police stations as some cost and have a specific time to perform the inking.

Local PD might be able to accommodate you, if you call ahead and notify them that you need the paper fingerprint cards instead of Live Scan.

For UT, I went to the UPS Store and they printed the scans on the standard cards. The local security/background check company scanned mine and printed on the cards sent by AZ DPS.

That makes it easy (UPS store). And I guess they can convert the digital prints into paper format which is what I need. Thanks all!

For what it's worth, at the Cow Palace show this past weekend they were doing Utah CCW classes and testing.

A lot of it depends on where you are located. Most UPS stores do them. In Socal, Identigo is a good place to get both the prints and the photos. Where I live, I recommend a local security agency. I have a Utah class in Roseville this weekend and recommend Rocklin PD up there (cheapest).

Utah does not require they be taken at an LE agency. Of the main mail-in permits (UT, AZ, FL, VA), only Florida and Virginia require the prints be taken at an LE agency.

Florida requires LEA to do fingerprinting. Arizona and Utah do not and UPS store or similar will suffice!

Our UPS Store had what was needed to do inked prints.
Since we are box holders and had the cards the clerk did them for free.

Getting ready to fill out the UT CCW forms.

Just so I’m clear, just fill out all info, get fingerprints. No CA CCW required? I think I’m reading way into it or overthinking the verbiage. Input is appreciated!

As long as you have your proof of UT training, you are good to go.

California CCW is not required as long as you have a California ID. The only time your home state CCW is required is if your home state recognizes the Utah permit.

Basically if you live (based on your driver license) in CA, OR, NJ, HI, NY, etc, you do not need your home state permit.

I you live in (based on your driver's license) NV, AZ, WA, WY or any other state that recognizes the Utah permit, then you need your home state permit.

I will PM you a copy of the follow-up email (it is copy & paste) I send to all my students that goes over what needs to be filled out.

Update:

About to finalize the application. On the fingerprint card, there’s no instruction like the AZ PERMIT on how they wanted the card filled out. I followed the AZ instructions since I’m doing both at the same time.

Just in case I’m sending two copies of the fingerprint card just like the AZ permit. For the “ORI” field, I wrote BCI along wit the full address. Think that would be okay?

Anyhow, hope all of you are on your way to getting your permits!

Sounds like you already sent two in, but for Utah you only need to send one. It is pretty rare for them to ask for a second card. Congrats on getting everything sent in!
