I don't think it will anytime soon. Too many hoarders continuing to hoard. When those particular hoarders finally stop, the new hoarders will start. It's a cycle that won't be broken for a year I'd be willing to bet.

As I recall the first of many huge increases in rimfire and centerfire ammo happened on GWB's watch. First in 2004 again in 2005 then 2006 and it just kept going up ever since. But it's fun and convenient to blame it ALL on one guy.

It's hard to find 22 lr in 500. My ammo shortage situation in my area is mainly due to people being cut throat and greedy. I despise this guy who brings five of his family members and takes every 500 bulk 22 lr on the shelf at 8 am in the morning, from my local walmart. That's all he does. It just ruffles my feathers because I got lucky one time and got to walmart before he did, there were (3) 500 bulk boxes and the nitwit tried to ask me to give him one, and when the walmart worker took the three boxes out for me... he tried to ask the worker to hand him one. After three weeks of waiting for my turn to get 22 ammo... the nitwit still tried to scam one of my boxes while it was being taken out. Then after I got it... he says to me... that's okay, I got multiple bricks of those, then he gave me a dirty look.

You're in a tough spot, given that you're actually in City of LA, which is a no-ship zone.

All you really need, however, is a friend who lives outside the city limits who is willing to let you ship to their house instead. Or, if you work, perhaps you can ship it to the office. That's what I do (not because I can't ship to home, but because I want to be sure someone I trust is ALWAYS there to sign for it).

Rimfire ammo is showing up online every day. Keep an eye on the Ammo thread in the rimfire forum. Monitor the thread as much as possible and be ready to click buy asap when something good comes up. I've picked up a couple thousand rounds this month, all under 10 cents per round (as low as 6.5 cents) shipped, and there are others who have done a lot better than I have.

Retail is a joke. Walmart works well IF the Walmart near you sells ammo... I don't think any of them near LA do (quite frustrating to read the Walmart brag/score posts). But even then you have to get pretty lucky because it disappears within a couple of hours of hitting the shelves, if they even last that long.

Online is your best bet. Just gotta find that friend you can trust (or ship to work, if outside the city limits).

I am betting by the end of the year the .22 lr situation should improve a lot. The more that is available the more people who want ammo are getting what they want and then slowing down their buying then allowing supply to catch up with demand.

Unless your a "hoarder" like me who cannot pass up a half way reasonable deal on .22 lr.

The OP being banned has nothing to do with the topic people are discussing.

I would like to see the shortage end as well. I've shot more 45s this year than 22s because I reload the 45. I'm guarding the 5 bricks I have left with my life LOL!

Yea, I wonder how many people feel stupid for not snatching up 5250 rounds of .22 Federal bulk pack for $175. I do. I feel very stupid.

This is the "black" part of the DHS ammo buy. The government sends all their entitlement folks out to buy ammo for DHS with their EBT or cash aid. DHS is able to buy even more ammo and not show it as a budget line item. Kind of like those $600 B1 bomber toilet seats back in the day.

Cabela's ships ammo to the City of Los Angeles.

Gander Mountain does too.

Midway does not. Palmetto State Armory does not.

If all you have at the moment is .22s you better get your butt in gear and atleast go buy a lower or AK.. Even though most likely they ll be available next year also.. Just further neutered.. Plus a lower can be assembled into a .22 or single shot... So technically I guess they ll be around next year also?

I feel stupid for only buying one case of it! Should have got two! It was $160 shipped to my doorstep.. Ah, the good ol' days.

But guys, seriously, you should check out PCP rifles and pistols (air guns). Pellets are cheap and plentiful.

The shortage is ending I think. Well, OK the naval yard thing might slow it down, but .22 is showing up more now, as is other ammo. Walmart ammo is actually showing up on the shelves for more than 10 minutes (it's up to like, 20 minutes now!).

i bought a 5250 case of federal earlier in the year, felt super guilty for having that much ammo, when i only shoot MAYBE once a month. so i sold it all for about 2 dollars more a box (for my time meeting people) and gave a bunch to the boy scout program in my area.

ive got about 3k rounds noww again, but i keep looking for more. still kinda feel guilty about it.

I just finished up .22 LR buying, now considering adding a few more cans of other calibers and getting a couple complete lowers, and maybe a few stripped.

They might be around next year, but they might be 2x or 5x the price.

My Walmart had both CCI and Winchester .22 LR's on the shelf last weekend. Sure, they were only 50 round boxes, but it made me happy, and only cost me $8 for my rationed 3 boxes.

I managed to score a Remington bucket of 1400 at the Cabelas in Reno last week for $59.95. I was in the right place at the right time. It went out on the shelf and was GONE in 10 mins

First 22lr that I have been able to buy this year.

Sportsman's warehouse had so much .22lr that I got some in the morning and there were still cci mini-mags when I went by on the way home from work so I picked up some more. I also saw more handgun ammo at wal-mart this week than I have seen since January.

I know what your talking about, my 4 kids would have the marlin 60 going, and the 1022 would be firing away while the next shooter waiting for his turn with a fresh mag ready to go. I went out and bought a bolt action and took the mag out to turn it into a single shot. Now a brick last months.

Its was 3 years before prices got back to normal (almost normal) last time the Magic Muslim got elected. Things are more hostile this time around. They may NOT get back to normal and we may see a "new normal" this time around. The Libtardz have discovered that guns need ammo like cars need gas. They have launched a WAR on both gas and ammo. So we will now have to pay MORE to get both.

If it looks like Hillary is going to get elected late 15 God help us all!

Welcome to HOPE and CHANGE!

Last month I bought a tricked out 10-22 and the seller threw in a brick of Wolf Match. I blew through the brick in no time so now I'm trying to find some more. I located some for $58 per brick. Is that a decent price?
for those of us who shot 22.lr for years , the decent price is $15~17 per 550 , after tax , so no , $58 per brick is a bad price , at least for me .

Merely responding to this: Ammo prices will drop when Chris Christie becomes president.
That ain't Kool Aid that's just delusional.
The facts are ammo skyrocketed in the years stated.
I got the receipts!

when they can make enough to bankrupt the hoarders and resellers

if they really wanted to do something they could

the ammo makers could encourage the resellers to offer a line list for bulk brick sales instead of the people who get up early and clean house

walmart is already set up for lay away they should allow one to put down an order for some and when it arrives they give a call

I don't think people selling ammo for $50/brick are going to last much longer. Too much hitting the online vendors now. Gander mountain had 525 golden bullets for 19.99, limit 10, and today cabela's had federal bulk 525's in ammo can for 99.99/2100. Minimags are regularly in stock, as well as aguila's Remington's etc. It's definitely loosening up. If you haven't already sold in the resale market, you missed the boat I think. The "hoarders" who have been able to stock up for the next ammo legislation will be 2nd gen'd here pretty soon too. I'm not a "hoarder", I just choose to buy now, rather than cry later.
