Two San Bruno officers awarded for Heroism

I just wanted to call out some local LEO kudos and point out that tourniquets can save lives and thank our LEO who are always on duty.

Corporal Joe Valiente was recognized for his swift and courageous action in saving the life of a stabbing victim who arrived at the rear of the department station suffering from a severed artery and about to lose consciousness. Corporal Valiente quickly applied a North American Rescue Combat Action Tourniquet (CAT) to the victim, saving his life with only seconds to spare, then assisted in apprehending the suspect.

Officer Andrew Harper was recognized for his incredible courage in the face of grave danger in rescuing a stranded kayaker while on a recent family vacation. Officer Harper and three of his family members noticed a kayaker that had become pinned between a large log and the muddy river floor in fast moving waters. Risking his own life, Officer Harper entered the water and managed to cut the kayaker loose using a pocketknife. Officer Harper and the other rescuers then swam against the heavy current with the exhausted kayaker in tow, taking him to the safety of the shore.
