Totally.

I'm gonna try and upcycle as much of this as possible for free by scouring CL.

Cinderblock base, red clay brick hearth, bed frame for angle iron.

Yeah, a few days going through craigslist and that whole project should not cost more than $20.

Ive seen a lot of killer pizza ovens made from cob. Lot of labor involved, but cheap. Google it.

There is a bar in Gardiner MT called the K-Bar that has a larger version of that oven and it makes some great pizza.

Gathering materials to build a deadwood, maybe a small and a larger version.

Do a search on Youtube. There are a few good videos of people building cob ovens:

friends build a pizza oven but used a commercial insert.

For cooking pizza on Saturday at 5pm, they fired up the oven Friday night and let a load of cherry burn until the oven got to 750.

Saturday at 3pm, they started a new fire. The oven was at 300 degrees from the night before and they let it get back up to 750 for the cook out... then allow it to cool to 700 and start cooking....

the commercial inserts are not cheap but a good oven will hold heat for a long time

Looks simple to build, only expensive part would be the iron plate.
I was thinking of doing something similar with an upper and lower iron plates and I could burn coals above and below the over part instead of inside it, use a piece of sheet rock for a front door to keep the heat in.

I just throw the pizza straight on the gas BBQ grill with some chips in a smoker box and close the lid. Works great. Good flavor and no extra project.

I have heard that if hte bricks have moisture in them at all, they can explode when heated up. Even moisture from morning dew or fog.

I'm not too sure how common or how much of a concern it is, but if you're going to make one, it would definitely deserve a google search to make sure you're doing it safely.

Regardless it's an awesome idea and I hear they work great.
