Into the 4100s now so just passing the 50% mark for the 8000 available.

That assumes they started at zero. I haven't seen any numbers below 1000 so maybe they started at 1000? Just speculating as I haven't followed things really closely.

They say 30-90 days before I get my purchase e-mail
Wondering how many people before me wont buy and what choices I will have.
4.5K into 8000, not sure what's going to still be available.

I think we are still early in the game and since most of the pistols received were thought to be service grade I bet those are still available halfway through. - At least that's what I am telling myself since I have not received a number yet!

I'd also point out that those who do not get selected for the first 8K pistols should be selected for the second batch of 8-10K which should be available in Fiscal 2019 (which we are already in).

So far the condition shown in all the pics on the CMP Forum are very strong. There are some over-parked specimens but many look very good and folks are happy in general so far.

I am not so sure they started at 1. Seems like numbers may have started at 1000

Default Cmp 1911's. Updated 1/29//18 with Cmp news release

Started my DROS today. Ill admit its beat up rattle trap Remington, but it sure puts a smile on my face. Impressed that it came with a fancy pelican case!

Can anyone explain the Colt/Rand tag? Rand slide with a Colt frame?

Feel free to dissect it as per usual Calguns fashion.

Remington means "Remington Rand," not Remington Firearms.

^^^ Interesting that has a flat MSH and long trigger. And you have pre-A1 frame!! Notice there are no finger reliefs cut into the frame behind the trigger.

Colt serial lookup for 428345 comes back to a 1918 mfg!!

Yes, appears to be WW2 RemRand slide over a WW1/Pre-A1 Colt frame with Pre-A1 trigger and MSH and looks like pre-A1 grip safety.

I’d say that is a unique score I would be real happy with it, knowing it came exactly like that from Military inventory. That pistol was in Govt inventory for 100 yrs. Who knows how many places it has been and soldiers who have carried it.

Wow! Thanks for that info. Cant believe this frame is a century old! A matching side would have been nice, but Im definitely happy with what I got. Barrel condition actually looks pretty decent. Forgot to snap a pic of that while in the store.

Original slide would not really be shootable. They were not hardened. That is why this one got a new slide along the way. They were rebuilt with new slides for WW2. Savor it, it is the real deal USGI - warts & all

You actually scored. IMO not a beat up rattle trap at all. I would rather have that one than a heavily sand blasted freshly refinished piece .

Oh you should see/hear this puppy rattle when you shake it. But Skyhawk nailed it for me: think of all the soldiers hands that have held this and all of the places thats its been. For me thats the coolest part. Im super excited for this.

Ill post up a range report when Im able to take it out.

EMR, that’s a neat bit of US Mil history. I’d love to see that pistol sitting in my case when it was opened.

I haven’t heard a peep. Still holding out hope, haha!!

What really sucks is, the last WW2 1911-A1 I bought I paid $180. Bought it off a guy that got it through the NRA in the early 60's and he paid something like $50. Used to see them everywhere for less than $250 with 95% Colt Blue.

Who knew...?

Can anyone explain the Colt/Rand tag? Rand slide with a Colt frame?
That's a real interesting combination. As others have already stated, it's a Remington Rand slide on a Colt frame. The frame does indeed date back to 1918 and has all of the early markings to confirm -- eagle head proof mark and US property marked on the left side of the frame.

The grips are Keyes fiber grips which are commonly found on Remington Rands and Ithacas (Colt used their own variation)

The slide is a late model Remington Rand -- not only is does it have the "Type 3" markings, but it also has the circular grind marks from the Blanchard grinder. Remington Rand was the most innovative of the 1911a1 manufacturers and was constantly trying to improve production speed. The Blanchard grinder was one of these methods and the circular grind marks show up late into their production run.

The lack of the arched mainspring housing is interesting though. As a original 1911 frame it should have the straight housing as seen in your pictures. However this gun has been through a rebuild (perhaps serveral) as seen by the AA mark (Augusta Arsenal). It should have been retrofitted to A1 specs. Who knows? maybe this one slipped by, or someone returned it back to original config?

in any case, very neat! congrats

I was in charge of a small arms collection and classification section when in Germany in late 70s/early 80s. We would get small arms turned in either for repair or because of MTO&E changes that would delete authorization for certain small arms, for example reducing the number of 1911A1s or substituting .38 revolvers, etc.

In those three years I saw a fair number of 1911s but all were reworked to A1 standards. I can recall both Colt and Springfield Armory frames.

The most curious combo I saw was a 1911A1 turned in due to excess. The line number called for pistol with holster. The unit turned it in with a brown cavalry swivel type holster that was flat as a pancake. Apparently the holster had accompanied the pistol as it was issued and reissued many times since WW2, never used, just preserved to be forwarded on when it went to its next home!

Got my 1911 from the CMP. I am pretty happy with it. It is a colt frame and slide and dates from 1942. I think that makes it a Navy 1911. Have not shot it yet but plan to this weekend.

Weird. It seems some are getting calls first and others are getting emails first.
