Default 8mm Mauser Czech Surplus --Withdrawn--

Withdrawn.

Nobody seems to be interested, and the longer it takes, the less I have to sell, because I am shooting it up. I'll keep it.

---------------------------------------------

I have 600 rounds of Czech surplus 178 GR 8x57 Mauser (AKA 7.92x57) ammo.

Brass case, Berdan primed, corrosive. Not sure if these are lead or steel core, but they are slightly magnetic.

Every box I opened has the "50" head stamp, I assume this means 1950, but not sure. 15 round per cardboard box, not on stripper clips.

Looking to get $150 for all 600 rounds, but am willing to break it up into 150 round bundles for $40 each.

Prefer face to face in the east SF bay area.

Photos were there when I posted the ad, as you can see from the lack of a "last edited by" notation in the post.

Please elaborate on what you mean by "junk rounds".

I have fired about 100 of them, and had no problems, no signs of pressure, no hard extraction, nothing. They all fired without incident, even in one of my rifles that has light-strike problems with some of the Yugo stuff, and shot about the same as the 50's Yugo surplus.

I picked 2 boxes at random, here are some photos:

The first photo is here, without being resized(~800K).

There is a little surface corrosion, but nothing I wouldn't expect for ammo made 60 years ago. More importantly the black sealant is still largely intact.

When I saw your PM earlier I tried calling you to offer you a refund, but got someone else's voicemail.

Offer stands, if you want a refund, let me know.

Nothing to reconcile. Box them up the way they they were when I gave them to you and I will give you your money back, in fact you would have had your money back tonight had you answered the phone when I tried to call you. PM me, we can make arrangements to meet and get this resolved.

The photos were there last night when I posted the ad. Here is an excerpt of the http logs from my web hosting. The first 4 lines are me, one line for each image, the top 2, "newthread" are when I previewed it before I posted, the second 2 "viewthread" are when I the thread came up after I hit post (you can see the time matches on my logs and when the thread posted at 9:47pm (21:47 ona 24 hour clock). I only edited the source IP adresses, and masked the last 3 numbers with "*", but the rest of the logs are available to any moderator on request, they can easily match the IP addresses in their logs to mine each time someone visited this page. I had to chop off the end of the log to fit the max post length settings, but It looks like ~20 different unique systems viewed the images between the time I posted and 12:06 AM this morning when the logs rolled over, and another 100+ today. Your first PM to me was at 10:14PM, as you can see below, people viewed the photos at 10:10, 10:14 and 10:17, so someone was looking at those photos at the time you say they were not there.

while there is a way to do it, it looks like emcon pretty much has proven his good will and good intent, and doughboy is backing his claim and has the post count and itrader rep to back it, i think judgement is going to fall against diginit on this since im sure everyone has experienced problems with pages not loading pics, and you hit refresh and it pops up the 2nd time you do it.

I have on my own ads. I didn't hack, don't know why the pics showed sometimes and not other times but yes, I've had it happen to me personally.

Looking at the time stamp from you "I'll Take It" post, it was 03-03-2010, 07:27 AM.

The logs I posted were from the time you first sent me a PM at 10:14PM on the 2nd. Here are the logs from the morning of the third, when you posted your I'll take it:

Your post hit at 07:27, I see hits on the files at 07:26 and 07:29.

I again redacted the IP addresses, but left enough that a Mod/admin can match them with the forum logs if they are so inclined. I will also provide the complete logs on request of a moderator/admin.

Actually, looking closer at the logs, I see one IP address popping up right around the time you are posting. Parsing them out, I think this is you:

Again, for privacy I edited the address, but if I punch it in to http://samspade.org I see it belongs to a Comcast Cable modem, and punching it into http://www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm?GetLocation tells me it is located in Santa Clara, CA.

Just out of curiosity, do you use Comcast for internet access?

I met with "diginit" today and he returned his ammo and I returned his money.

Full disclosure: He purchased 300 rounds, didn't inspect them closely when he picked them up, and when he did was unhappy with the condition. He was concerned that the "primers are corroded to the point of pitting" and believed them to have been tumbled. I opened some of the boxes he returned, and the photos above are a reasonable representation of what he got.

This is the ammo Century sells for $159/case as "Sellier & Bellot mfr., 40’s mfg. Berdan primed, corrosive, FMJ, Boat Tail, brass case."

I did not tumble them, but it is certainly possible this happened some time in the sixty years since this ammunition was manufactured. It would appear that it has been repackaged, as the headstamps are mixed in each box.

It is 60 year old, military surplus ammo that is cheaper than anything else out there. Like I said, I have shot about 100 already, and am only looking to sell about half of what I have, the rest I am going to keep and shoot.

At present, 150 rounds has been spoken for, but the rest is still available. For the record, the ammo "diginit" purchased and returned will not be sold, I will keep and shoot it.

I am sorry this drama happened, but it did, and I want to make quite clear I am not trying to hide anything.

Thanks for your time.

Great price. If I was up north I'd get the entire haul.

Still the same, 150 spoken for, the remaining 450 rounds is still available.

I shot 60 rounds of the what "diginit" returned Sunday up at Chabot, and my opinion is unchanged. Worked great in 2 different K98ks, shot as well as the more expensive (1950s vintage) Yugo surplus without any clicks when you expect a bang (which I can't say for the Yugo stuff).

I'm sorry too, Thanks for the refund. Next time I buy ammo I will check each round to assure it will not be the cause of a catastrophic breech failure. Although I have never had to think about that in over 3 years of buying on CG until now. This stuff may be safe in a bolt gun, But do not fire it in a Hakim or any other semi auto. Clicks don't bother me. Booms do.
I told you I would delete my posts and it was up to you to clean up this post to avoid you losing sales. Attempting to make me look like a fool is not the way to do it. Fire only ammo in good condition... Period.

I would never do that, it wouldn't be ethical. You bought some, you were not happy, and I quoted one of your private messages to tell prospective buyers why. Every one of the probably 500 people who have viewed this thread before you deleted your posts are well aware of that, and if I "cleaned up" my posts it would look like I am trying to hide something, which I am not.

Not doing that at all, just posting a summary of what happened to inform potential buyers. Is what I posted in any way inaccurate? If there is something you want to add or correct, go for it.

I agree. Evidently opinions vary on what is "good condition". What I (and others, apparently) see as cosmetic surface corrosion you see as a cancer eating through the primers and making them prone to failure. Lots of people on other forums are having the same experiences as me with this ammo, nobody has ever mentioned any pierced primers or pressure problems.

You also had a concern that the rounds were tumbled, looking closer in bright sunlight Sunday, I think you are probably correct. You believe that this will break down the powder and make them have higher pressure, I am skeptical of this theory, but regardless I pointed out I have had no pressure signs, nor have I heard of any reported that I can find on any other forum.

Frankly, the "don't tumble live ammo" thing is still fairly controversial, for every person claiming "you will blow up your gun" there is another who has been tumbling their ammo for 50 years with no problems.

I imagine if anyone had problems with it, Century wouldn't still be selling it.

Time to let this die, diginit. I think the vast majority of readers think emcon has done the right thing from beginning to end, and you are just diggin' a deeper hole.

Withdrawn.

Nobody seems to be interested, and the longer it takes, the less I have to sell, because I am shooting it up. I'll keep it.
