Default San Luis Obispo (SLOSA) 30 31 July 2011

Here it is Central Coast... Your next (or first) shot at that Rifleman patch and while you're there you might as well learn about how our Nation was born, and the men and women that helped to deliver her!

Whats that you said, you're over in the Central Valley? Well it's been hot over there and it's only gonna' get hotter. Why not spend a weekend over at the coast? The range is about 7 miles from the coast with those cool North West winds blowing right down the valley. You can stay cool and have some fun at the same time!

Range: San Luis Obispo Sportsmans Association/Hogue Range

Address: San Luis Obispo, CA. 93405

Website: www.slosa.org

When: April 16-17
July 30-31
November 05-06

Range Fee: range fees/day = $10.00, SLOSA/HR members = $5.00.

Camping available: yes, onsite primitive camping is available (no hook-ups) and bathrooms are port-o-potties.

Hotels:

Morro Bay (5 miles), San Luis Obispo (11 miles)
Best Western
250 Pacific Street, Morro Bay, California, 93442-2261, US
Phone: 805-772-2248 Fax: 805/772-6844

Days Inn
1095 Main St, Morro Bay, CA - (650) 873-9300

Travelodge Morro Bay
1080 Market Avenue, Morro Bay, CA - (805) 772-1259

Directions:
The CCFEF/SLOSA Public Shooting facility is located on the northeast side of scenic Highway 1, approximately 12 miles west of Highway 101 (San Luis Obispo) and four miles east of Morro Bay. The Shooting Range, visible from Highway 1, is across from Hollister Peak, one in a line of unique local mountains.

Driving from San Luis Obispo, pass Camp San Luis (California National Guard base) and Cuesta College. Look for the white wooden fence on the right (NE) and turn onto Gilardi Road. Coming from SLO, you won't be able to see the range until after you have passed the turnoff. Gilardi Road, our driveway, splits immediately to the right and left. Turn left to reach the Public Rifle & Pistol range, the Trap ranges, and the Educational Facility, or right (straight) to reach the Hogue Range, the Black Powder/Muzzleloader range and the Chorro Valley Regulators Town range.

State Laws to be aware of: Check State Laws: www.ag.ca.gov/firearms/
*No detachable box magazines may be brought into state with capacity exceeding ten rounds. Unless you owned them prior to Jan1, 2000; then it's OK. All Tubular-magazine 22s are OK.

*“Assault weapons” ban- If you’re registered with CA DOJ already, you’re fine and can shoot your AK, AR15, G3 etc. with no problem. Might want to Xerox the DOJ document and keep it in the rifle case. Do not bring an unregistered “assault weapon” into the state. Do not bring an unregistered “assault weapon” to the range. Similarly, unregistered 50 BMG is not legal.

Out of state shooters, don’t bring military-pattern semiautomatics as they’re almost sure to fall under the “assault weapon” ban. M1 Garand and most 10-shot fixed-magazine SKS' are OK, however. There is one SKS exception: Zastava SKS Carbines 59/66 are considered destructive devices in California and therefore may not be purchased, possessed, imported, or kept for sale without a permit. (Having said all that about “assault rifles”, there is provision in state law for out-of-state shooters to bring “assault rifles” to CA shooting events; anybody wants to try that out might want to read the statute for themselves and consult a lawyer-welcome to California.)

Transport rifles and pistols unloaded. Pistols and “assault rifles” go in padlocked containers. Car trunk is considered a locked container, but glove compartment, even if it locks, is not OK. (I go the extra mile and padlock everything: firearms in one padlocked container, ammunition in another padlocked container. More than law requires, though.) No tracer ammunition allowed.

Misc: It is 25 meter shooting, so while centerfire is welcome bring out your 22's and gain valuable marksmanship skills.

Any way to pre register and avoid PayPal? Not my favorite place to risk my credit card - we've had problems.

Looking forward to this very much.
