How much in advance should we renew?
My permit is up in 2/1/14, I know this is a few months away but I also know how the appointment deal works and it can take time. For those renewing in Sac county how much in advance did you make a renew appointment?

I scheduled my renewal class 2 months in advance and scheduled my renewal appointment for 3 weeks in advance, I was no problem at the time. But as the Sac Sheriffs calendar get full of new applications, they seem to keep renewals flowing. Amber does not release dates for renewal too far in advance. usually 2 months at a time. Just keep checking the renewal calendar as you get closer. you should be ok.

Sac County renewals
The window for a renewal is 60 days either side of your expiration date.

I scheduled my renewal appointment with SSD for a couple of weeks before expiration. I booked that appointment about 6 months in advance, if I recall correctly.

IIRC, SSD gives a grace period of a month or so in which you cannot carry, but you can renew w/o reapplying from scratch like a first time applicant. Confirming that is highly advisable.

Call them and ask them how long it is taking. That is what I did. If you renew early, your next two year period begins on your renewal day. If you are two months early then you just cut off two months of you license period.

Sac County renewals, con't.
If you are more than 60 days past your expiration date you start the whole process over again.
If you are at 59 days when you are there for your renewal appointment the permit that you will be handed will reflect a new expiration date of 2 years from the expiration date of your just recently expired permit i.e. 22months in the future. Just make sure all of your ducks are all lined up 60 days before your expiration date and you won't have anything to worry about.
