Default Reloading for Trapdoor and 1873/1892

Hey guys I'm getting ready to start reloading for these calibers. I've done my homework but just wanted to run it by you guys to see if I'm missing something.

These are going to be light plinking / cowboy loads for some of my old work horses 1873 Springfield trapdoor 45-70 (made in 1880s) , Winchester 1873 38-40 (made in 1884) , Winchester 1892 44- 40. (Made in 1893 )

I will be using Unique for the pistol rounds and Accurate 5744 for the 45-70.

Springfield 1873 / 405gr
From what I have read you do not want to go above 18000 CUP
Lyman 49th edition states starting with
26gr/ 12200 Cup - 29gr / 16100 Cup
I will probably load up my first 50 with 27grains 2.550 OAL.

Winchester 1892 44-40 205gr
Max Cup of 22000
UNIQUE 6.3gr /5700cup - 7.9gr / 12000cup
I will load my first batch at 6.8 grains with 1.592 OAL

Winchester 1873 / 38-40 / 180gr
Max PSI 13000 not sure on CUP ?
No 38-40 data on the 49th only found it in the Lyman from the 1960s.
8gr-1190FPS / 11GR-1506 FPS
OAL 1.592.

What do you guys think ? Any of you using these same powders and bullet weight ? Much appreciated !

You might want to ask for a Quick Load output, just to make sure of your incremental charge pressures...

I don't load those calibers, so can't help there, but a QL output should give you complete data to work from...

In 45-70 I have some soft shooting loads using 305 gr(?) Bear Creek cast and Benchmark. 405 gr as well.

My "grizzly bear load" is a 350gr Swift (well beyond trap door pressures), but 350 makes a nice compromise in trapdoor velocities as well.

I do plan to get a Marlin Guide 1895 Trapper in 45-70, i think this is the best backpacking rifle in bear country, a 350 + grain bullet going 2000 + FPS
