OOF, that video could have been 2 minutes long if that guy talked a little faster.

Does he have a head injury? He talks so slow it was starting to get painful. Sorry I could only listen for just over a minute, then I started looking for a revolver to suck start.

Wow. I feel like a sloth having watched that video. My brain feel like it's been set in slow motion all the sudden!

But on the subject at hand, storing your ammo bullet down may be a better idea.

Probably less likely with Mil spec ammo that uses sealing, but yeah other ammo could be a problem. Not much humidity where I live but I put moisture absorbers in my ammo cans anyway.

Yea, the video sucks. It was the first one I found with Hi Point's warning. I'd never heard of this before last night when I brought home my Hi Point Carbine and was bored enough to read the small amount of literature that came with it. If you can get through the slow speaking, he does a couple tests with primers only and it shows that the action can open from just a primer.

I thought it was interesting and explains what has happened to me with a rimfire blowback rifle. I'm a lefty and I ended up seeing a flash of burning powder come out the chamber and hit my glasses TWICE, with two different rifles on two separate occasions. I never could figure out how either rifle had fired out of battery but, this could it.

Interesting. It makes sense though. Almost all my ammo is recently manufactured but older stuff I might give it a try. Also agree with above about the car ride / handling.

When we use to stock groceries, we'd tell the new booties "OK, now we need you to go shake all the salad dressings..." Couple of 'em fell for it. Reminded me of that.

That's a start, but you have to stop half way and turn all your ammo over so it gets shaken equally.

Yup, mine gets plenty of shaking on the way to the range, or just getting loaded up in the ride for that matter.

Shake your ammo!
A reloader with a minimum ability to search the Internet “Shake your ammo!” can find responses on different forums about shaking their ammo. It is not likely a reloader on a forum would give credit to the forum or posting member.

I remember one response that went into the danger of shooting caked powder. First if the power is caked on the primer end there is a big chance the caked powder can cause a delayed fire. And then there was the other end near the bullet, caked powder near the exit hole can render the rifle scrap. The rational went something like the primer ignites the powder and burns it in a column, problem, the caked powder near the exit hole is like an obstruction so it is possible the reloader/shooter will not feel the powder moving.

That old time post was about a 30/40 Crag that was involved in an inheritance. The rifle came with 6 boxes of hand loads by a reloader that was loaded by the greatest reloader in South Texas.

And then there is the risk of opening the bolt while the powder is cooking off at the bottom of the column.

Turkish ammo, I have fired Turkish ammo that went off like a sparkler with that hissing sound. $2.40 for 70 rounds seemed like a bargain. Too many cases split through the case body, the cases took on the appearance of having hit by a shaped charge. I pulled down most of the ammo and found the powder to be caked and had to be dug out. Other cases were caked near the primer and other cases were caked at the exit hole. I only fired the cases that had loose powder. I was impressed with some of the Turkish ammo, some of the bullets left the barrel at 2,900 fps.

Always shake up the powder inside the case. Especially if you're about to use any surplus, old manufactured or stored for awhile ammo.

I could not watch the video that guy has some type of problem. I gather from some of the postings that you need to shake your ammo. Since when? Never heard of this before. I shoot either good quality ammo or my reloads. Not once have I had a miss-fire and have never shaken ammo prior to shooting. Are you fellas telling me you shake your ammo?

Yup, the warning comes from Hi Point and was included with the 995 I picked up the other day. Since it is a Hi Point warning, why not use a Hi Point to do the testing?

As a precision XLR rifle shooter, I've heard of shaking ammo to get the powder to be distributed in the case consistently for each round being chambered. I've never heard of a manufacturer advising to shake factory ammo to alleviate the possibility of powder clumping in the flash hole and causing a hang fire though. It does make sense.

It did to me, it also makes sense to understand some powders are position sensitive. A foreign company suggested reduce loads are a bad habit, they suggested a reduced load could render a pistol scrap. Problem: The foreign company could not repeat the test with the same results meaning they did not blow a pistol up ever time the trigger was pulled. Because the test was not repeatable we as in us reloaders on reloading forum ignored the advise. Well not all of us, I do not shoot reduce loads, if I did I would position the powder next to the primer by raising the barrel. Others that did not believe them starting using material that held the powder to the rear next to the primer.
