Default Ak74 purchase with a budget

Hey guys I have been eyeing the AK74 system. I already have a 47, so I think it's time to add a 74 to the collection. My budget as of now is $500. Any good options? Thanks

Build party

http://ak-builder.com/index.php?disp...oduct_id=30034

$335 for a chrome lined bulgarian kit, plus $25 for the flat and whatever the build party fees are. All told including a BB and a magazine you should be just under $500

Go look at Atlantic Arms for some AK74s. Met a guy at the range who got one from Atlantic and it shot like a charm.

get a Saiga 5.45.

It will fit well within your budget. When you have some extra cash/time you can convert it bit by bit back to its true form.

Hecka funny. I own a wasr myself and it was my first ak and I'll tell all you haters this.
I had 7 AR's in the safe when I bought that wasr, after a month of shooting it, and fyi I go thru about 500-800 rounds a week I sold an AR to get another ak now I have no AR's and 2x as many ak's in the safe, with that said the wasr went over 10k rounds about 2 months ago and besides the wood being unfinished it has never had a problem that was caused by the rifle. Unless you build your own ak I'd reccomend a wasr anyday and if you dont like it let me know n I'll take it off yoyr hands.
Now i'm not opposed to saigas I have a saiga 308 I converted myself and I love it.

I really want this for this price but he's just too far away from me.

I'm not sure if it already sold or not.

wasr is a good rifle. the century ak74 rifles with usa made barrels are not so good. many if not most were made with 223 barrel blanks. keyhole is very common with them.

You need to add an inch, you can get the extended muzzle break from AimSmall here on Calguns.net for $75, or better yet, fuse the AK oil can cover (1 inch/metal) to the existing muzzle & you can fold it! You'll also need a bullet button & you'll be Ca legal.

This is by far the most efficient & quick way to get your AK74!

Here's a short video firing my AKMS polish underfolder, folded! Now before the OAL police chimes in, notice the extended muzzle device, makes it 30 inches folded!

On the Polish Tantal-I believe I asked atlantic a while back if it was legal, and its a no-go. DAS here in San Diego had some a while back for about $550, and they were modified with an extended barrel so the folder was operational. You didnt state what configuration you want, but +1 for Atlantic if you want a plug and play 74.
On the WASR-I own an Arsenal and a WASR. The WASR is a great gun, and I think a majority of people who got burned didnt inspect the gun prior to purchase. If the shop doesnt let you check the very basics of the possible WASR you are getting (canted sights, proper magazine fit, smooth action, solid rivet work) then go to a different shop. You wouldnt buy a used car without at least opening the hood, would you? Thats exactly what the WASR is-A used car.

Me and my friend bought Century AK74 variants and we have yet to have a problem from it. Switched out the black polymer stocks with our own refinished wood stocks.

Right on! I refinished the wood on my WASR. Where near Anaheim did you find AK74s? They would be the WASR 2s right? Im in San Diego, but Ill make the trip to a shop that sells them.

I bought mine through GunBroker from Sovereign Arms in NC. If you buy one online, go to Direct Action Solutions down in Solana Beach, those guys have great service and they're awesome people to work with.

I would go with Saiga 5.45x39 and convert it.Built and assembled in russia on Izmazh, cant get closer to real AK than that. And it has a chrome lined barrel,so no worries about shooting corrosive ammo and forgteting to clean it.

Some of those Century guns are quality pieces, the buyer needs to know what he's looking at. As for the keyhole issues from years ago.....that was years ago. That was their first run of Tantals and some Bulgy 74's, they seem to know now that 223 and 5.45 are not the same and have barrels in the correct caliber.

Heh. If you lower your standards enough even an ugly chick can be hot. If one has to carefuly hand pick a rifle out of a batch to get a good one, I wouldn't call it a good product as a whole.

I picked up a Century 74 that I picked up from Direct Action Solutions and its a great gun as well. No problems so far. I switched out the pistol grip for a Hogue grip that I also have on my wasr 10/63. I still need to change the furniture to wood cause the hand guard is pretty cheesy.

My WASR-2 from Century shoots great. The finish on the stock is a little rough and the tapco pistol grip sucks, but otherwise it's a great rifle for a great price. I'd advise you to check out the WASR-2 and not be scared into paying several hundred dollars more. Or as others have said, a Saiga 5.45 could be the way to go. You get a great rifle in your budget and you can convert it later when you have the money.

Get a Saiga Sporter. You will have a true Russian AK74 base to start with. Since you are on a budget you can buy the conversion parts piece by piece. Once you aquire all the parts, build the thing to your likings. BAM! You will have a badass AK74.

Decided to increase my budget to $600-700(maybe). I was looking on Atlantic Firearms and saw a few aks built by IAC in my price range. Anybody have any info on them?

Whattt is this true? So then all those horror stories (atleast to me) about people having to clean it right when they get back from the range is untrue for chromelines barrels?
