Maybe it could peen enough to wedge itself in the forward/extended position.
My firing pin had the same "damage" to it; people on XDTalk stated that SA believed the notch was due to routine break in and was nothing to be concerned about. I wonder if this could be part of it...

The recall page showed a picture of a pistol with a roll pin in the grip, so I assume that something about the firing control group is going to be re-engineered to prevent these issues from occurring. Their latest statement makes me feel like their initial diagnosis was only partially right and a new fix must be engineered now.

I have other guns to carry, so the return time is not that big of a concern to me.

Apparently the roll pin is just to show that it has been recalled and fixed.
Nothing to do with the problem.

Anyone see the update on SA site from 9/27?

http://www.springfieldrecall.com/Recall%20FAQ.asp

Quote:
We originally estimated a 30-day turn-around time, but it has unfortunately taken longer to develop and identify an upgrade solution. Please know that we are continuing to test potential upgrade solutions at this time and we have been doing so since we became aware of this issue. This testing is nearing completion and we will post any new updates as soon as we have identified a final upgrade solution.
My question is, does that mean they do not yet have a fix for the problem or they have not yet found the most efficient way to get these done and returned to us in a timely fashion?

My XDS's sometimes don't reset the trigger - has anyone else seen this, and is this an issue with the recall?

If I have the slide locked back and insert a loaded mag and drop the side, sometimes the trigger is still at the back of the trigger guard. I have to pull the slide back 1/4 inch- like a press check - to reset the trigger and make it go forward and ready to fire. Anyone else have this issue? Related to the recall or not...?

^^^ Yep. You print out an RMA from SA's site and take it to FedEx with your sealed package. Took about 30 seconds to drop it off.

This is being discussed of this on the XDTalk forum. Some definitely think it is related to the problems and the recall.

My guess is yes. I would assume they want all of these fixed one way or the other. I'll bet a good number of these were never registered with SA, my own included, and are still going to be fixed, some day!

Got an E-Mail from SA. They said they will give weekly updates on this website.

http://springfieldrecall.com/

As of 10/04...

"As we noted in last Friday's update, our testing of potential upgrade solutions has continued and we are pleased to tell you that we have made significant progress over the last seven days. We have now identified what we believe is our final upgrade solution and throughout this coming week we will be continuing with our thorough and exhaustive testing of that solution. It's because of our commitment to your safety that we are conducting such extensive testing and we are working as fast as we can so that we can return your upgraded pistol to you".

updated 10/11, recall link

We are pleased to announce that our testing was successful and is complete.

We will receive our first shipment of upgrade parts early next week and will begin shipping upgraded XD-S™ pistols back to our customers the week of October 21 on a first-received/first-upgraded basis.

Report on what changes have occurred to the guns. Includes one man's experience and a claim from the company.

Excerpt: "From my initial tests, this modification to the gun is an actual upgrade. I shot it better. Plus, though I personally have not had any problems with my gun, Springfield would not have gone through all of this difficulty for themselves if there wasn’t a genuine safety concern."

And, "Visually the “upgrade” to the XD-S amounts to a roll pin in the grip safety. Inside the pistol there are 3 other upgraded parts, the sear, the sear spring, and the disconnector."

(Hope including link does not violate a CalGuns policy or is a double post. Looks like a good result. Hoping it is true for all).

Arrived today in a plastic case, with a 7 round mag and X-tension.
Dry firing didn't feel like the trigger pull increased, however the reset is now more positive.
Taking it to the range tomorrow.
Hope yours gets back soon!

I think everyone's getting the case, magazine, and extra sleeve.
I sent mine wrapped in bubble wrap, in a cardboard box.
Just got back from the range.
Again, no perceptible difference in trigger pull, although my wife said it felt a bit heavier, but that was after she shot 50 rounds through my Sig 1911.
Trigger reset is definitely more positive and distinct.
After detail stripping it, I couldn't tell what was/wasn't replaced.

Ran an ammo comparison test from 7 yards:

No failures of any kind, and the Barnes TAC-XPD was definitely the most accurate and softest shooting.
So, both the wife and I will be carrying the Barnes.

The trigger feels heaver. Not bad, but not as smooth and not as lite as I remember.
I will put a few hundred rounds through her this weekend to see if that loosens things up.

Apparently this peening has nothing to do with the recall. Mine came back and the FP still looks like this.
