ATTENTION

3.3 XD-S™ SAFETY RECALL

Issued August 28, 2013
Technical Background Get Started Contact Us Springfield-Armory.com
Springfield Armory® is initiating this voluntary safety recall to upgrade 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm and 3.3 XD-S™ .45ACP pistols with new components, which eliminate the possibility of a potentially dangerous condition. We want to emphasize that no injuries have been reported to date.

Springfield has determined that under exceptionally rare circumstances, some 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm and .45ACP caliber pistols could experience an unintended discharge during the loading process when the slide is released, or could experience a double-fire when the trigger is pulled once. The chance of these conditions existing is exceptionally rare, but if they happen, serious injury or death could occur.

What should you do?
STOP USING YOUR 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm or .45ACP PISTOL AND CAREFULLY UNLOAD IT!

To begin the upgrade process and for fastest response, click on the Get Started link at the top of the page. On that page enter your serial number and click Next. If your pistol is subject to this recall, you will need to provide your name, address, phone number, and email address. The serial number is located on the frame beneath the dust cover (accessory rail). If you prefer, you may initiate the upgrade process by calling 800-680-6866. If you no longer own the 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm or .45ACP pistol, please advise Springfield of the current owner.

XD-S Serial Number

What pistols are involved?

This Safety Recall applies only to:
Springfield 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm pistols - serial numbers between XS900000 and XS938700
Springfield 3.3 XD-S™ .45ACP pistols - serial numbers between XS500000 and XS686300.

This Safety Recall does not apply to any XD® or XD(M)® pistols.

What will Springfield do?
Springfield will send you a return authorization and mailing label, allowing you to return your 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm or .45ACP pistol to Springfield at no cost to you. Springfield will upgrade your 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm or .45ACP pistol with the new components, and return it to you. Springfield will provide tracking numbers so you can monitor the receipt and return of your upgrades.

Questions?

Visit Springfield Armory. com for further information about this safety recall. You can reach the Springfield Armory Call Center at 800-680-6866. Springfield apologizes for this inconvenience, but your safety is our paramount concern.

We greatly appreciate your loyalty to Springfield products.

Had one waiting to be DROS'ed at EBRWorks soon. Now I'm not so sure if I want it if it has to be sent in right away.

I am DROS'ing one as we speak I am still going to shoot it because what is is Springfields plan for us who had to go through SSE to get the firearm? Will we have to go through an FFL again and DROS again just to get warranty work? I was an armorer in the Army if they can send me to parts I will do it my self or if they want to recommend gunsmiths in the california that might work to....

I have one in jail right now. I just called the shop, and they are going to take care of it for me. I would call the shop you bought it from and see if they will handle it for you.

I have confirmed this yet myself, but Springfield Armory might not ship a gun back to California regardless if it's an individual, Leo or dealer.

If that's the case, I'm selling mine tomorrow.

They ship to California for LEO sales, so I would not think that would be a problem. The one I bought was marked "LEO only". As far as SSE, I am not sure on Springfield's position, so I will not take delivery until the problem is fixed through the dealer.

Through a distributor or direct? AFAIK Leo will run into the same problem in California.

Are we talking about non rostered guns shipped back to California? My info is direct from a dealer and verified to him via SA at Shot Show and other distributor shows. Also from multiple customers.

IMO there's no way SA is going to ship off roster guns back into CA. I'm sorry to say but this is one huge problem with the SSE process.

Also SA has always been a dick when it comes to selling replacement parts. They have always wanted to be the one to replace parts. It's been like this going all the way back to the original XD.

Back when I owned a SSE'd XD-S, they had no problems shipping the gun back to me when I sent it in for repairs.

It could be. I think I last sent mine back around January of this year. I do know they wouldn't ship a new XD(M) to a California FFL for me to SSE as a replacement firearm when they couldn't diagnose the problem with the XD-S, so maybe they've extended that policy to include repair guns at some point.

Awe wth i'll send mine in. I'm sure there are thousands of others doing the same it might take a while to get it back. I don't see why they wouldn't ship back a legally purchased firearm that they already shipped here. If that is the case they're going to have a sh*t load of xds' laying around.

I'm going to send mine in.

If there is a chance--however remote--of a ND which results not from user error but from a manufacturing or design defect known to the manufacturer, I do not want that firearm in my stable unless the issue has been remedied by the manufacturer, period.

If Springfield fixes the issue and sends the firearm back to me, great. If they decide that they cannot ship the firearm back to me for legal reasons, then I will simply request they refund the money I paid for the gun so that I may purchase something else.

I'll provide updates on my experience. However, because I am a licensed attorney and am paranoid about unintentionally creating an attorney-client relationship, please do not construe my statements as legal advice as they are in no way intended as such.

Hopefully EBRWorks will let me transfer my deposit on the XDs to something else now. Maybe the Sig M11. Was having second thoughts while waiting for the SSE kit to become available for my use. Now this recall makes my decision easy. I'll opt for the Sig instead. Just gonna kick it old school with my XD40 sub compact.

One was a non roster 1911, one was an on roster 1911 and one was a SOCOM 16. The non roster gun was maybe 2 years ago? I guess it could have changed since. I don't see how they know the gun was sse'd/bought on exemption/ppt/moved to state with it.

I would think they'd put the safety of all their products before any weird feelings about cali. Imagine the bad press if people decided not to ship their guns in because SA had a no shipping policy for off roster guns in ca and there were nd's that resulted in injury or death. I don't think they would risk that.

If this is SA's policy to not repair a potentially unsafe firearm purchased legally by California gun owners then I am done with Springfield.

Good luck to everyone and I hope this issue is resolved.

just printed out mine, will send in this week or next. I call BS on them not sending back to CA. They might not send back to an FFL but since this is going from me to the manufacturer they shouldnt have a problem sending right back.
If they dont send it back then I will have them refund my $ along with the money I spent on 2 mags from them and put it all towards an M&P. I will then be forced to never purchase a product from them again.

wow....i just bought one via PPT 10 days ago... now I wonder was this a known issue or was this literally just announced yesterday? just tried calling the 800# and call won't go through. If anyone actually gets confirmation that the gun is going to be shipped back to CA please post/update.
