Compact or Full-size 9mm for very small hands
I was helping a young woman at the range today. She was shooting a stock full-size gen 3 Glock. She has reasonable experience haven taken a number of tactical classes, but can't hit steel plates at relatively close range (10 yards). She did just fine with my 9mm 1911. The Glock, as it turns out, is way too big for her hands. She has to rotate her strong hand just to make the reach to the trigger; no wonder the result is low left.
So, polymer (or steel) 9mm on the roster that works for someone with really small hands? I'm really only familiar with 1911s and a bit with HK so looking at the roster wouldn't be much of a help. I welcome any and all suggestions. There are of course trigger jobs that shorten up the Glock trigger considerably, but I'm not sure that would be enough. |

See if she can rent/try a Glock 43, much smaller but snappier.
Off roster so have to look hard to find one.

Single stack 9mm is another path.
The SIG Sauer P239 9mm (CA roster) is excellent option. For its compact size with relative heft, it can give you service grade accuracy, reliability and shootablity.

All good suggestions save the Desert Eagle. She will need to go to a range and rent several possibilities. The Sig p239 seems like a very nice option, but you've either got to like DA/SA or have the gun converted to DAK which is reported to be better than HK LEM. Of course the Sigs are a bit expensive. I have two LEM triggers and like the system for HD/SD, but I could easily use it for competition; just wouldn't be as fast as my 1911.

Springfield emp - the stainless target fullsize will probably be a bit heavy but the emp should be very amicable- slim grips are also available. Sig 938 is even smaller- can be awkward for new shooters if they can't get their pinky supported.

Kahr k9 is the perfect gun for small hands. My wife is 5'0" tall, barely 100lbs and has child sized hands. The only gun she I own that she likes to shoot is my kahr k9.

Most every one shoot more comfortably and better with a 1911 than a polymer gun, but some people don't admit it.
Anyways, a 1911 in 9mm is way easier to shoot for a beginner than any gen3 glock. And, i doubt the lady is looking for a war weapon that does not need to be cleaned. ( in before the reliability discussion heats up). |

Is the Shield something you would want to take to a 400+ round tactical pistol class? Setting cost aside, sometimes hard to do, why then not an SA EMP which has greater capacity and excellent ergonomics plus a bit more weight to help with recoil management?

I second this. Nice thin grip, and you can even make it thinner with some of the ultra thin grips on the market if needed.

Another option is the Sig 2022. Can be found under $500 and has 2 grips sizes included. I have one and love it. I have big hands and find it almost too small.
Still on roster. https://www.2azone.com/sp2022-sp20229bca-p-4819.html |

Third the bhp.. I haven't tried the thin grips as the factory grips are just fine for me... Kimber 1911 9mm just a little better... S&W mp if she can find one.... Glocks never have felt comfortable in my hand,,, I just cannot get my hand around it fully for a secure grip... Cheers...

Compact or Full-size 9mm for very small hands
Another vote for the EMP for 1911 style shooting, excellent quality, and super slim fit. If she prefers polymer, HK VP9/P30 and Walter PPQ with their adjustable grips also offer excellent options but have the off-roster tax .

If she has to rotate her hand to make contact with the trigger then no Glock will work for her. Their sub guns dont get thinner, only shorter which wont change a thing for her. She needs to try a single stack like a shield, LC9s, PM9, etc. She was able to grip your 1911 because it is single stack and is narrow.
